Blue Devils split pair with Grenada

Water Valley rallied from a disappointing 5-2 loss to Grenada to earn a doubleheader split with the Chargers Saturday. The Blue Devils won the second game 5-1 thanks to a five-run sixth inning and good relief pitching from Walt McCullough. (March 8, 2010, Page 8A)

Shuffield set to face Thompson Saturday

Local Mixed Martial Arts fighter Codie Shuffield will be back in action Saturday night with a highly anticipated fight against a growing rival, Mike Thompson. Lafayette’s Robinson signs with NWCC

Lafayette pitcher Stormy Robinson has signed a scholarship offer to play for Northwest Mississippi Community College. Robinson transfered back to LHS after two years at South Panola because she wanted to graduate with the class she was originally in. Robinson gained a lot from the transfer, including extra recognition from colleges during South Panola’s 2008 state title run. (March 5, 2010, Page 7A)

Rebels down LSU in home finale

Ole Miss remained in the hunt to tie Mississippi State for a share of the SEC’s Western Division title with a 72-59 win over LSU Thursday night at C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliseum.

Chris Warren led four Ole Miss players in double figures with 22 points, while Zach Graham came off the bench to score 16 points. The Rebels earned their first sweep of LSU since 1999 and also secured another 20 win season for coach Andy Kennedy, who now has been a part of three of the eight seasons where the Rebels have won 20 or more games. (March 4, 2010, Page 6A)

LHS pitcher throws no-hitter

LAFAYETTE BASEBALL — Lafayette senior right-hander Matt Taylor pitched a complete-game, no hitter Tuesday in the Commodores’ 10-0 win over South Pontotoc  at W.V. Brewer Field. Taylor finished the game with seven strikeouts and he was just two walks away from having a perfect game to his credit. (March 2, 2010, Page 8)
