Local musician Sky Shelton releases new album

OXFORD TOWN – Local musician and guitar hero Sky Shelton has recently received tons of accolades for his sizzling guitar work and has just released his first album, “New Sound Old Soul.” Shelton is also set for an album release party at the Lyric Theater on Thursday, Sept. 22, where he’ll share a bill with Drew Chapman and John Milstead. Gina Sexton, Shannon McNally; Busy girls around town

Blue Mountain returns to Proud Larry’s

OXFORD TOWN – It’s time to gather your friends and celebrate the Rebels’ win over BYU with Oxford’s favorite alt-country/roots rock band, Blue Mountain, this Saturday night after the game. Parrish’s hosts Tyler Keith and The Apostles this Saturday night

OXFORD TOWN – Tyler Keith (pictured) and The Apostles are set to help kick off the school year this Saturday night (Aug. 27) with a free show at one of Oxford and Ole Miss’ favorite bars on the Square, Parrish’s. The 2nd Annual Oxford Endurance Weekend cranks up Friday, Aug. 5

OXFORD TOWN – The cover of this week’s Oxford Town features SmartSync Oxford Endurance Weekend, a jam packed weekend of endurance races, which begins at the University Museum with the Rowan Oak 5K on Friday and ends Sunday on the Oxford Square with the Oxford Square Criterium. Page 6 in this issue has a schedule, photos and other details about the upcoming full weekend of endurance races as athletes around the country invade Oxford with their bikes and triathlon gear. Rocket 88 to get ‘happy’ at Proud Larry’s

OXFORD TOWN – Even though the gigs are a couple of weeks away, Oxford Town deems Rocket 88 cover-worthy (but maybe just a little too early for print) for its upcoming Happy Hour shows on the Oxford Square. Arguably Oxford’s favorite Americana, rock, blues, country gospel (you-name-it) band, Jamie and Rosamond Posey and Rocket 88 are set for two Happy Hour shows at Proud Larry’s — Thursday, July 21 and Thursday, July 28 — and here’s an additional OT cover designed to pump it up. A Hill Country Picnic Retrospective

OXFORD TOWN – It wasn’t exactly the “Summer of Love,” but it was close. The 2011 North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic went off without a hitch last weekend and we have the photos and coverage to prove it. Kenny Brown set for Sunset Series in the Grove this Sunday

OXFORD TOWN – The 2011 Summer Sunset series rolls on this week featuring Kenny Brown, one of the veteran “hill country blues” musicians and a longtime partner of R.L. Burnside, bringing his mixture of country, blues and rock to the Grove Stage on Sunday, June 12. To Light A Fire to light up The Blind Pig

OXFORD TOWN – The indie/alternative band, To Light A Fire, is headed to Oxford and The Blind Pig for its debut show. Members of the band include Tyler Cody (guitar), Shane Cardinal (bass), Alison Smolin (pictured-drums), Ben Smolin (keyboards/vocals) and Andrew Flickinger (guitar). Catch the rising Birmingham band tomorrow night (Friday, May 20) for an improvised show at The Blind Pig and be sure to check out a feature on the band on Page 9 in this week’s issue of Oxford Town. (May 19, 2011, Page 9)

Rooster’s hosts Mississippi Cadillac Blues Band this Saturday

OXFORD TOWN  – Producer/musician Bud Bays (pictured) and his latest project, Mississippi Cadillac Blues Band, are set for a live performance at Rooster’s Blues House this Saturday (May 14) for a rare afternoon/evening jam session on the historic Oxford Square. “Cadillac” is touring in support of its new CD “Stone Cold.” Page 5 in this week’s issue of Oxford Town features an intimate interview with Bays by Oxford Town Editor Jeff McVay. (May 12, 2011, Page 5)
