Local man continues battle with mysterious illness

In the late-’70s and early-’80s, Oxford native Howard Phillips, 49, was an athlete who played football, basketball and ran track at Oxford High School. It was a way of escaping the drugs and violence he witnessed growing up in one of the city’s low-income housing projects. Today, he is battling a mysterious illness that has stolen his ability to walk, if only temporarily, and searching for answers.

      Plans for new plant OK’d

      Plans for the new, highly anticipated Olin-Winchester facility were approved unanimously during the Lafayette County Planning Commissions regular meeting Tuesday night. The new facility will be built south of County Road 166, the entrance into the park, and on the west side of the existing facility where land is already being cleared. (December 29, 2010, Page 1)

        New plant to boost economy

        When the new Winchester Centerfire Operation is up and running in the next few years, the community’s economy will get a major boost with the combination of 1,000 new high-paying jobs and millions of dollars in new tax revenues, according to a new economic impact study. (November 10, 2010, Page 1)

          Hard work behind the scenes pays off
