Chargers hold off West Point to win 2-5A title
Oxford’s knack for playing its best basketball in the postseason and winning division tournament titles under coach Drew Tyler continued Friday night as the Chargers knocked off West Point 71-61. The win not only secured a 10th championship trophy for Tyler in his 14 years of coaching at OHS, it also ensured a home playoff game Tuesday against Clarksdale a year after the Chargers had to travel to Ridgeland. Chargers’ complete effort leads to title
The most complete effort of the season on both sides of the court led to yet another division title for the Oxford Chargers Friday afternoon in the regular season finale against West Point.
Oxford’s 68-49 win over West Point gave the team another regular season title and more importantly earned them the No. 1 seed in this week’s Division 2-5A tournament that begins Tuesday at West Point. The Lady Chargers also played well in their regular season finale, defeating West Point 60-57 to finish 6-0 in the division and also earn the No. 1 seed in the tournament. (February 7, 2011, Page 3B)
Oxford splits doubleheader with West Point
Oxford’s girls basketball team defeated West Point on Friday night to remain undefeated in District 1-5A play, while the Green Wave defeated the Oxford boys 69-60 in the nightcap. Wave crash Oxford’s 5A playoff hopes
One of the most successful seasons on the gridiron the past few seasons for the Oxford Chargers ended with a disappointing 27-12 loss to the West Point Green Wave in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs Friday night at Bobby Holcomb Field.

Oxford hoping to break West Point’s Waves
Just moments after the Oxford lost to West Point 22-20 during the regular season, Chargers coach Johnny Hill told his team that he thought they would see the Green Wave again in the playoffs and at home no less.
His prediction ultimately came true as the Chargers (9-3 overall) host the Green Wave (11-1) in an important second round Class 5A playoff game at Bobby Holcomb Field Friday night. (November 18, 2010, Page 7)
Late rally not enough to lead OHS past West Point
A chance to climb back atop the Region 1-5A standings for the Oxford Chargers was ultimately dashed by the West Point Green Wave on Friday night at McAllester Field. Despite a late second-half surge on offense led by quarterback Guy Cameron Billups, the Chargers fell to the Green Wave 22-20.
Oxford (4-3 overall, 1-2 in region play) totaled 392 yards against a strong West Point defense, but in the end it was Green Wave quarterback Justin Cox and his offensive mates that were able to find a way to pull out the win that kept them atop the region standings. (October 11, 2010, Page 1B)
West Point plays near flawless game in victory over Chargers
West Point’s most complete game of the season came at one of the most inopportune times for the Oxford Chargers Friday night at Edwin Moak Field.
The Green Wave defeated the Chargers 8-4 for their first win in six Division 2-5A games by playing extremely clean baseball on defense and getting timely hits against OHS starter Shae Mnichowski and reliever Cameron Rose. (April 12, 2010, Page 2B)
