After rain washed out Tuesday’s scheduled meeting between the Lafayette and Water Valley middle school football teams, they were able to play Thursday at William L. Buford Stadium. The eighth-grade Blue Devils won their third straight game after an 0-2 start by defeating the Coffeeville Pirates 21-14 Monday night. The seventh-graders lost 30-28 to fall to 4-1 on the year. Jack Pritchard led the eighth-grade Blue Devils with 11 points, while Quez Towns scored six points. Tyrese McGuirt had 11 points to lead the seventh-grade. Jayvon Morgan added eight points. Water Valley swept Pope Middle School on the hardwood on Monday, with the seventh-grade boys winning 17-9, the seventh-grade girls winning 13-11 and the eighth-grade boys claiming an 11-9 victory.
Keauana Sarrow and Tierra Turner led the seventh-grade girls with seven and six points respectively. In the seventh-grade boys game, Cooper Clements and Makedrius Gooch had team-highs with seven and five points respectively, while Skyler Defer led the eighth-grade squad with four points.
