WVHS ends regular season; OHS, LHS look for more Ws

The regular season is drawing to a close for the area’s three high school football teams. Oxford, Lafayette and Water Valley are all headed to the MHSAA state playoffs, and each is looking to keep its momentum going this week with the postseason looming. (November 1, 2013, Page 7A)

    Devils travel to end regular season at Palmer

    Water Valley continued what’s becoming a season-long trend of blowout victories last week. The Blue Devils hung a season-high 60 points on Independence in a 40-point win, the seventh time Water Valley has won by at least 25 points. (October 31, 2013, Page 10)

      Seniors pace Blue Devils in latest win

      WATER VALLEY — The weather may have been near freezing, but the Water Valley offense was red hot as the Blue Devils dominated the Independence Wildcats 60-20 Friday night at Bobby Clark Field. (October 28, 2013, Page 2B)

        OHS aims for region title; LHS, WVHS look to stay on a roll

        There is plenty to play for for the area’s three high school football teams this week.
        Oxford, the state’s fifth-ranked overall team, will host Clarksdale for the outright Region 1-5A title Friday night while Class 3A No. 5 Water Valley needs a victory over Independence to keep pace atop the Region 2-3A standings. Lafayette has to win its final two games beginning with Senatobia to get one of Region 2-4A’s three playoff berths. (October 25, 2013, Page 6A)

          Water Valley was pushed as hard as it has been in any win this season last week at North Panola. Other than a six-point victory over Bruce, the Blue Devils’ 28-12 triumph was their smallest margin of victory. (October 24, 2013, Page 8)

            Devils overcome miscues to top North Panola

            SARDIS — It wasn’t pretty, but Water Valley will take it.
            The Blue Devils committed a pair of second-half turnovers and were flagged a whopping 18 times for more than 160 yards but mixed in big plays on offense and some opportunistic play from their defense to pick up their second region victory with a 28-12 win at North Panola Friday night. (October 21, 2013, Page 3B)

                    WVHS picks up first region win

                    WATER VALLEY — Still seething from its first loss of the season at Charleston the previous week, Water Valley decided to take its frustration out on Holly Springs.
                    Quarterback E.J. Bounds passed for a pair of touchdowns and ran for two more while T.T. Person ran and caught one each to lead Water Valley to its first Region 2-3A victory of the season with a 56-0 lashing of the Hawks Friday night at Bobby Clark Field. (October 14, 2013, Page 4B)
