Lafayette’s Williams earns first POW award

Chequille Williams provided the spark that got Lafayette’s season off to a bang Friday, returning an interception for a touchdown minutes into the Commodores’ 8-3 win against Tupelo. (August 21, 2012, Page 6)

    Blue Devils blow out Wildcats

      Water Valley cruises in opener

      BLOG: It’s hard to imagine the Blue Devils could have started their 2012 season in a more impressive fashion.

      Friday night, Water Valley cruised to a lopsided 41-0 victory over Independence at Bobby Clark Field with all of the game’s points coming before halftime.

        Blue Devils prepared for season opener

        The weeks of working in the sweltering Mississippi heat will finally be put to the test Friday night.

            Devils feel prepared for dry run tonight

            WATER VALLEY —The football season is finally right around the corner. After going through two-a-days, 7-on-7 drills and summer workouts, the Water Valley Blue Devils can finally begin to smell the fresh cut grass and hear the Friday night crowd.

            Today the Blue Devils will host Vardaman in their annual jamboree game.

            The exhibition at Clark Field is set for a 7:30 start and will consist of two 20-minute quarters before a junior varsity exhibition. (August 10, 2012, Page 6A)

              Blue Devils have productive first practice

              WATER VALLEY — Classes don’t officially begin for another week, but that didn’t stop the Blue Devils from getting plenty learned on Monday.
              With Clark Field serving as the classroom, the Water Valley football team officially began preparing for the upcoming season.

                It’s go time: Practices begin Monday for teams

                A summer of hard work is about to turn into true practices for area high school football teams. With the season opener three weeks away, Lafayette, Oxford and Water Valley will begin practices for the 2012 season Monday. In Lafayette’s case, the first practice under first-year coach Eric Robertson comes Monday morning at 8. (July 27, 2012, Page 6A)

                  Water Valley’s Edwards commits to Troy Trojans

                  Water Valley offensive lineman Taylor Edwards didn’t expect to be playing at a Division I school when he first started playing football. Even though he has the size (6-foot-4, 280 pounds), strength and athletic ability college recruiters are looking for, Edwards didn’t think it was possible he would earn an athletic scholarship. His mindset changed this spring when Troy University offered him a scholarship. After visiting the Troy campus a couple of times and camping at some other schools such as Louisiana-Monroe, UAB and Memphis, Edwards decided Troy was the best fit for him in the future. (June 26, 2012, Page 6)

                    Devils hold their own while playing up

                    Water Valley didn’t have an easy draw in the third annual O-Zone Classic 7-on-7.
