WATER VALLEY —The football season is finally right around the corner. After going through two-a-days, 7-on-7 drills and summer workouts, the Water Valley Blue Devils can finally begin to smell the fresh cut grass and hear the Friday night crowd.
Today the Blue Devils will host Vardaman in their annual jamboree game.
The exhibition at Clark Field is set for a 7:30 start and will consist of two 20-minute quarters before a junior varsity exhibition. (August 10, 2012, Page 6A)

Former Water Valley head boys basketball and track coach Murray Dixon will be inducted into the Mississippi Valley State Athletics Hall of Fame Saturday in Itta Bena. Dixon, who was also an assistant football coach at WVHS, played along the offensive and defensive lines at MVSU from 1961-1965. He was voted All SWAC in 1963 and 1964 and was also a team captain. After putting on a show for four years at Water Valley’s Death Valley, the hard-hitting Blue Devil duo of Chris Conard and C.J. Jackson announced in front of a packed house at Irie on the Square on Monday that they would be taking their abilities to Itawamba Community College.
No, the Water Valley head coach has not been demoted. Just the opposite.
