Camp serves as motivation for WV’s QB

Cars with license plates from as far away as Missouri, Texas, the Carolinas and Florida littered the parking lot of Ole Miss’ Indoor Practice Facility on Saturday, where the Rebels were playing host to more than 300 high school football players competing for scholarship offers.

The silver truck of Water Valley football coach Brad Embry was also in the parking lot, having transported rising sophomore  quarterback E.J. Bounds to the senior-heavy camp. (more…) (July 27, 2011, Page 6A)

    Blue Devils show another dimension

    Water Valley didn’t look like a football team that was out of its element this weekend. It was just the contrary.

    The Blue Devils, known as a smash-mouth team that sprinkles in the passing game on offense, regrouped after losing its opening game to advance all the way to the Group B Championship Game of the O-Zone Classic 7-on-7 tournament hosted at FNC Park. (July 11, 2011, Page 7)

        WVHS, Potts Camp seeing progress

        Another hot Monday evening on the gridiron meant another day of progress for the eight teams that participated in Oxford’s weekly 7-on-7 scrimmage.

        Water Valley’s Blue Devils, led by coaches Richard Russo, Steve Thompson and Jeb Lee, utilize the weekly competition to gain experience in both passing the ball and stopping aerial attacks. (more…) (June 21, 2011, Page 7)

          Lee hired to assist WV baseball, football

          The Water Valley athletics department has hired a somewhat familiar face to assist in coaching its baseball and football programs.

          Former Brandon assistant Jeb Lee was recently hired to serve as a primary assistant with the baseball team as well as coach safeties and receivers on the football staff. (June 7, 2011, Page 6)

            Conard stands out at Tupelo combine

            Those in attendance at last weekend’s Scout.com football combine at Tupelo High saw first hand what the Water Valley coaching staff has been saying for years: Chris Conard is a legit talent.

              Blue Devils looking to expand field house

              The Gridiron Blue Devils have apparently outgrown their current home and are looking to expand.

              Water Valley officially kick-started its efforts to fund an expansion to its field house last week, depositing a check for $4,000. (more…) (April 14, 2011, Page 7)

                Chargers set to visit Ragin’ Cajuns

                A trio of Oxford Chargers football players are set to visit the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns this weekend. Verbal commits DeShaun McNeal and Larry Pettis are expected to be joined by teammate Guy Cameron Billups on the trip.                   Several Blue Devils make MAC 3A Team

                  Several Water Valley Blue Devils were honored on Wednesday for their standout play on the football field.

                  Included on the 2010 Mississippi Association of Coaches’ Class 3A All-State Team were first teamers, linebacker J.D. Fondon, safety/running back Eric Buckley and long snapper Fred McGee. Cornerback/receiver Chris Conard was named to the second team, while linebacker C.J. Jackson, lineman Tommy Lipscomb and punter John Michael Grimmett were named as honorable mentions. (December 9, 2010, Page 6)

                    Ruleville Central no match for Blue Devils second round matchup

                    The Water Valley Blue Devils continued their playoff success with a convincing road victory over the Ruleville Tigers 31-0 in the second round of the MHSAA Class 3A playoffs. (November 15, 2010, Page 6B)
