Devils expect stiffer challenge from Hawks

It has been a tough year for Water Valley. After a loss to Charleston to open up Region 2-3A play last week, the Blue Devils have more than three losses for the first time since 2009.  The Blue Devils now turn their attention to the Holly Springs Hawks (4-3, 0-1), who are coming off their own region-opening loss at the hands of North Panola. (October 9, 2014, Page 6A)

No. 3 Charleston wears Blue Devils down, beats WVHS 40-17

WATER VALLEY — The Water Valley Blue Devils began their Region 2-3A slate with a 40-17 loss to Charleston on Friday at Bobby Clark Field. The Blue Devils (3-4 overall) got a touchdown run from Kirkland Horton and a touchdown pass from quarterback Jonathan Kent, but it wasn’t nearly enough to keep up with the No. 3-ranked Tigers (4-2, 1-0), who quickly wore down a depleted Blue Devil defense in another blowout victory in the series. Charleston has outscored Water Valley 82-27 the last two seasons. (October 5, 2014, Page 5B)
