Mooreville sweeps Blue Devils with 8-4 win

MOOREVILLE — The Water Valley baseball team got off to a quick start but Monroeville responded and were just a little bit better as they defeated the Blue Devils 8-4 in Game 2 of their Class 3A second round series at Mooreville High School Thursday night.  The Troopers swept the series and ended the Blue Devils season (May 1, 2015, Page 2B)

    Mooreville escapes with Game 1 win over WVHS

    WATER VALLEY — Runs were at a premium in a game where pitching ruled the night. The Water Valley baseball team and Mooreville found themselves in a low-scoring affair with the Troopers edging the Blue Devils for a 2-1 win at Blue Devil Field on Tuesday.  Mooreville took Game 1of the best-of-three MHSAA Class 3A second-round series. (April 29, 2015, Page 2B)

      Water Valley makes quick work of Leflore Co.

      WATER VALLEY — It was an easy night’s work for the Water Valley baseball team, which advanced to the second round of the MHSAA Class 3A playoffs after sweeping Leflore County in doubleheader action Thursday at Blue Devil Field. The Blue Devils took the first game, 10-0, in six innings and won the nightcap, 12-0, in four innings to eliminate Leflore County from the postseason. (April 24, 2015, Page 2B)

        Oxford sweeps WVHS, Saltillo to stay perfect

        It was another doubleheader day for the Oxford High baseball team, and as they have been all season, the results were the same. The Chargers defeated Saltillo 13-3 in six innings to cap a sweep of the twinbill after beating Water Valley 8-0 at Edwin Moak Field on Monday. The wins kept Oxford perfect with a 26-0 record and improved the Chargers to 8-0 in Division 2-5A with the win over Saltillo. The Chargers will go for the undefeated regular season tonight against West Point on Senior Night. (April 21, 2015, Page 6)

          Errors costly for Water Valley in loss to Senatobia

          WATER VALLEY — The Water Valley baseball team hung around with Senatobia despite a number of miscues resulting in free runs for the Warriors. But the Blue Devils couldn’t overcome all of them. Water Valley (15-9) dropped a 6-5 decision to Senatobia on Senior Night Monday at Blue Devil Field. Four of the Warriors’ runs were unearned thanks to five errors by the home team, including the decisive one in the top of the seventh. (April 14, 2015, Page 6)

            Defer dominant in Blue Devils’ win

            WATER VALLEY —The runs were not in heavy supply, but with Skyler Defer on the mound, the Water Valley High baseball team did not need many in a 3-0 win over South Pontotoc at Blue Devil Field on Tuesday. (March 25, 2015, Page 7)

              BASEBALL PREVIEW: Devils enter 2015 with questions at key positions

              Water Valley has turned into a regular participant in the MHSAA Class 3A playoffs. Getting back to the postseason is going to require contributions from some new faces in new places. Gone are shortstop Cole Camp and catcher Taylor Smith, who combined for eight years of starting experience before their eligibility ran out. The Blue Devils also have to replace the power of outfielder Dillon Zinn and the pitching of Cody Greer, who sat at the top of Water Valley’s rotation for the last three seasons. (February 23, 2015, Page 6)

                WVHS P Defer signs with NEMCC

                WATER VALLEY — Skyler Defer has played all over the field for Water Valley’s baseball team the last two seasons, but the rising senior is going to the next level for one reason. Defer signed with Northeast Mississippi Community College on Thursday. He’s seen time in the outfield, at first base and on the pitcher’s mound for the Blue Devils since he joined the varsity team as a sophomore, but the Tigers want him for his arm. (January 16, 2015, Page 6)

                  ALL-AREA BASEBALL: Houston Roth steps up game, earns POY award

                  Oxford High School right-hander Houston Roth was a sophomore who pitched like a seasoned veteran during the Chargers’ run to a North Half runner-up finish, and that performance earned him the Oxford EAGLE Player of the Year award for the 2014 season. (June 17, 2014, Page 1B)

                    Blue Devils set to face familiar foe

                    For the third time in four years, the Water Valley Blue Devils and Kossuth Aggies will have to go through one another in order to advance in the MHSAA Class 3A baseball playoffs. The prize to the victor this year is a trip to the North Half championship. (May 9, 2014, Page 6A)
