A late rally wasn’t enough to lift the Water Valley Blue Devils to a win over South Pontotoc on Tuesday night. WVHS fell 8-7 despite three hits each from Taylor King, John Michael Grimmett and J.D. An opportunity to defend their Class 3A North Half title is what the Water Valley Blue Devils earned on Friday with their 13-2 win over South Pontotoc at Blue Devil Field. Errors ended up preventing the Oxford Chargers from earning a clean sweep in a baseball twinbill at W.V. Brewer Field on Saturday afternoon. Lafayette coach Greg Lewis knew his Commodores didn’t play their best against Oxford to start Saturday’s baseball fest at W.V. Brewer Field. Instead of changing the lineup drastically against Water Valley on Saturday night, Lewis decided to let his team work itself back into normal form.
The end result was a much better approach at the plate in a 15-5 win over the Blue Devils in five innings. (April 4, 2011, Page 7A)
Winona was able to defeat Water Valley for the first time in division play Friday with a 5-4 win in eight innings over the Blue Devils baseball team.
Drew Pratt was saddled with the loss. Walt McCullough led the Blue Devils at the plate with a home run, double and a single. Cole Camp had two singles, while Adam Langham had a double.
