Jets down Dealers in CSBL
Former Lafayette Commodore Cody Gray scored a run for the Golden Triangle Jets in their 9-7 win over the Dealers on Tuesday night at the New Albany Sportsplex. Another former area player, Water Valley’s Walt McCullough, collected a single, RBI and scored a run for the Dealers. Former LHS standout Luke McCullough played center field for the Dealers. Former area players helped lead the North Delta Dealers and the Tippah County Tribe to wins in the Cotton States Baseball League on Sunday night in New Albany.
Plenty of new faces at LHS on Tuesday
Tuesday proved to be a busy evening at Lafayette High School.
Not only were each of the five baseball and softball teams filled with underclassmen looking to make their mark and get their shot at starting, but the Water Valley and Lafayette softball teams were also under the direction of new head coaches in Casey Clouse and Katie Moore respectively. Lee hired to assist WV baseball, football
The Water Valley athletics department has hired a somewhat familiar face to assist in coaching its baseball and football programs.
Former Brandon assistant Jeb Lee was recently hired to serve as a primary assistant with the baseball team as well as coach safeties and receivers on the football staff. (June 7, 2011, Page 6)
Area players make District Two team
Water Valley’s Taylor King and Lafayette’s Luke Stanley were two of the 18 players selected to play in the State Games of Mississippi. King and Stanley made the District 2 team after faring well in a tryout held at Northwest Mississippi Community College this past week. Other members of the team include Hernando’s Josh Brown, Scott Pala, Drew Rutledge and Caleb Goff, North Delta’s Bailey Guckert and Luke Latham, Magnolia Heights’ Jack Smith and Jacob Billingsley, South Panola’s Andrew Horn and Hunter Durham, Bruce’s Jay King and Chase Clark, Center Hill’s Colton Sutton, DeSoto Central’s Dominik Carlini and Tunica Academy’s Branon Holms. Barber’s focus, talent leads to Player of Year award
A focused approach that started this past summer made Oxford High baseball player Zac Barber the most important player on the field for the Chargers this season.
For a team that had several good high school players on the roster but nobody that was headed to play at the Division I level next season, Barber was able to carry the Chargers to an unexpected 19-12 overall record and a spot in the Class 5A North Half title series. (more…) (June 2, 2011, Page 1B)

Cotton States League to open season on Saturday
