Speedy Warriors may test Blue Devils
Water Valley will open the second round of the MHSAA’s Class 3A baseball playoffs against an Corinth team that has a lot of the same characteristics as the Blue Devils.
The best-of-three series begins tonight at 6 in Corinth. The second game will be played on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Water Valley while the “if necessary” game would be played Monday at Corinth. (May 7, 2010, Page 8A)
Devils pounded Wildcats to reach second round
A good approach at the plate led to some early offense and an eventual win for the Water Valley Blue Devils in their Class 3A baseball playoff series with Independence Friday evening.
The Blue Devils advanced to the second round of the playoffs after defeating the Wildcats 10-4. WVHS scored the game’s first six runs and then tacked on its final four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. (May 3, 2010, Page 2B)
Blue Devils open 3A playoffs with a win
Bittersweet was the word used by Water Valley coach Doug Robbins to describe his Blue Devils’ 5-3 win over Independence in their first game of Class 3A best-of-three playoff series Thursday night.
The Blue Devils (18-6 overall) used a solid, if not spectacular, pitching performance by Josh Johnson to hold the Wildcats at bay long enough for their offense to score the bulk of their runs late. (April 30, 2010, Page 7A)
WVHS teams begin 3A playoffs tonight

Water Valley’s baseball and softball teams will be facing two different challenges tonight as both begin the Class 3A playoffs.

Chargers’ Roberson talks baseball playoffs
AROUND THE SQUARE AND BEYOND — Bradley Roberson may not be coaching high school baseball any longer, but he still has a pulse on what’s going on in the sport and the upcoming playoffs that start on Friday.
The Chargers played a good portion of the teams left in the playoffs, including Independence, which faces Water Valley in the first round, and Lafayette, which plays against former Region 2-4A foe Cleveland in the first round. (April 28, 2010, Page 6)
Blue Devils’ Jenkins signs with Rangers
Three seasons of hard work on the baseball diamond paid off for Water Valley pitcher/infielder Shanquayle Jenkins Tuesday when he signed a scholarship offer to play for Northwest Mississippi Community College. Jenkins became the second Blue Devil this season to sign with the Rangers, joining shortstop Josh Johnson, and the seventh from WVHS to sign with NWCC since the end of the 2006 season. Practice pays off for Water Valley
WATER VALLEY — A week filled with practices that concentrated on hitting definitely paid dividends for the Water Valley Blue Devils in their two Region 2-3A games this past week. Robinson’s effort huge for ‘Dores
Lafayette’s depth and no-quit attitude really made a big difference in its 8-7 win over Water Valley Saturday afternoon.
Led by the stellar all-around play of Hunter Robinson and the solid relief pitching of Luke Stanley, the Commodores were able to flush a disappointing one-run loss to Lewisburg on Friday night by overcoming an early 3-1 deficit to knock of the Blue Devils. (April 12, 2010, Page 2B)
