Ceremony thanks first responders

A ceremony was held Thursday evening in the Grove to conclude the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance activities and to honor local first responders and remember those who gave their lives by running into the burning Twin Towers when everyone else was running out. (September 12, 2014, Page 1)

      MLK’s life still inspires others

        Oxford hosts first Giving Tuesday

        The United Way of Oxford and Lafayette County, Volunteer Oxford, North Central Mississippi Medical Reserve Corps and Lafayette County RSVP partnered together to kick off the first Oxford Giving Tuesday. Donations were taken at the Oxford Activity Center for several organizations to benefit their needs. (December 4, 2013, Page 1)

          Volunteer Oxford and other local agencies have teamed up to hold Oxford’s first Giving Tuesday, where folks can bring donated items to the Oxford Activity Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday to help nonprofit organizations fill their wish lists to help them continue to help others throughout the year. (November 28, 2013, Page 1A)

              Community to remember 9/11 through service

              Representatives from Volunteer Oxford, the University of Mississippi, Mississippi State Veterans Home and other area agencies formed a committee to plan events in conjunction with the National Day of Service effort, planning several events on 9/11 aimed at remembering and honoring the fallen of that day and the heroes of today. (September 5, 2013, Page 1)

                  Events encourage people to get outdoors

                  Oxford Park Commission celebrates national Get Outdoors Day from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Pat Lamar Park. Various activities will be held for both children and adults, from children’s fishing in Lake Patsy to football tosses, face painting, camping and hiking and the Art-to-Go will be on hand. Includes collaboration between Leadership Lafayette, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Ole Miss Outdoors, U.S. Forestry Service, Boys and Girls Scouts, the Lafayette County 4-H club and Volunteer Oxford. (June 7, 2013, Page 3A)
