Mississippi Clarinet Day

The University of Mississippi Department of Music hosts featured guest artist is Frank Kowalsky, professor of clarinet at Florida State University, offering a free recital at noon Monday in the Ford Center. All members of the community are invited to attend. Additional clarinet events include performances by clarinet ensembles at the Ole Miss Student Union at 3 p.m. Students from universities and high schools across the region will be coming to Oxford to attend this clarinet event. (March 31, 2010)

    Spring Choral Concert

    The University of Mississippi Department of Music hosts a spring choral concert featuring the UM Concert Singers, Men’s and Women’s Glee and Women’s Ensemble, Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Nutt Auditorium. The event is free to the public. (March 26, 2010, Page 2B)

      L-O-U Symphony concert

      Faculty soloists Bradley Robinson, baritone, and Jennifer Robinson, soprano, will join the L-O-U Symphony in a selection of opera arias and duets from at 8 p.m. March 10 in the Gertrude Ford Performing Arts Center.

        Ecuadorian Pianist Performance

        Pianist Washington Garcia is set to perform as a special guest artist March 9 at the University of Mississippi. The show is slated for 8 p.m. in Nutt Auditorium, and tickets are $12 for general admission and $8 for UM students with valid IDs. They can be purchased at the UM Box Office in the Ole Miss Student Union, telephone 662-915-7411 or at the auditorium box office on the night of the performance. (March 2, 2010)

          Children’s concert

          Wednesday, March 10, 11:30 a.m. at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of the University of Mississippi. The program will feature Giuseppe Verdi’s “Overture to Les Vespres Sciliennes,” Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings” and Don Freund’s “Three Preludes.” Admission is free to area school children. Part of a series of orchestra concerts especially for students in elementary grades. The programs, under the direction of Ronald Vernon, featuring faculty and advanced student performers, are drawn from the Music Department’s regular-season programming, but with special introductions and commentary designed to help young people understand and appreciate the music. (February 26, 2010)

            Bass Trombone Recital

            Martin McCain, assistant professor of low brass at Henderson State University, Arkadelphia, Ark., will give a bass trombone recital at 8 p.m. Monday in the Nutt Auditorium of the Ole Miss Music Department. (February 24, 2010)
