    Halls of justice make natural art galleries

    The U.S. Federal Courthouse in Oxford has been spruced up lately thanks to the efforts of Court Clerk David Crews, judges, local and state museums and artists. The courthouse is hosting art exhibits on its once-bare walls. (November 16, 2012, Page 1B, 2B)

      July’s Art Crawl adds new exhibit venues

      OXFORD TOWN – As summer continues to heat up the L-O-U community, so does the Oxford Art Crawl. The popular monthly event will take place Tuesday, July 24, from 7-9 p.m. at the Powerhouse, Gallery 130, Southside Gallery and the University Museum. Turn to Page 12 in Oxford Town No. 988 to check out the Powerhouse’s cool new mural and see what new exhibits have been scheduled to be part of the crawl this month at selected spaces around town. (July 19, 2012, Page 12)

        Oxford Blues Festival reloads this weekend

        OXFORD TOWN – The 2012 version of the Oxford Blues Festival reloads this weekend all around Oxford and the Oxford Square. The event kicks off at the University Museum on Friday at 4 and ends at Foxfire Ranch in Marshall County on Sunday featuring some of the hottest blues acts and musicians in the country.             Art abounds around town

            OXFORD TOWN – Last week, the University Museum unveiled its latest art exhibit “One World, Two Artists; John Alexander and Walter Anderson” headlining a frenzied art explosion all around the L-O-U community. Other exhibits include the showing of Bozarts Art Gallery’s exhibit “12 Invite 12,” the Powerhouse’s ongoing exhibit “Costal Art Show” and a new exhibit at Southside Gallery (photos on Page 12). The 2010 painting on the Oxford Town cover this week is titled “Octopus” by Alexander and the photo seen here titled “Stormy Monday” is also by Alexander.               2nd Annual Oxford Blues Festival launches Friday, July 21

              OXFORD TOWN – The blues will heat up Oxford this weekend, featuring 25 acts from four states as the 2nd Annual Oxford Blues Festival launches at venues all over town beginning Friday, July 22. Performers for the festival include Eddie C. Campbell (pictured here), Effie Burt, Matt Gaylord of The AM Band, Jay Lang & The Devil’s Due and Andrew Hancock of The Hancock Co.                 Thacker Mountain Radio collaborates with University Museum

                OXFORD TOWN – Thacker Mountain Radio will broadcast from the Lyric Theatre this Thursday from 6-7 p.m. Following the broadcast, a documentary film will be screened depicting the unique history of the Gee’s Bend Quilters and the singers from Alabama. Page 9 in this week’s issue of Oxford Town has details about this week’s collaborative effort between TMR and the University Museum featuring artists and singers from Gee’s Bend, Ala., and author Andre Dubus touring in support of his new memoir “Townie.” (March 10, 2011, Page 9)

                  Levingston, Storr to perform at Nutt Auditorium

                  OXFORD TOWN – Words and music between a world-class pianist and a renowned artist come together in a lively discussion next Wednesday. The University of Mississippi Museum presents “An Evening with Bruce Levingston and Robert Storr” at 7 p.m. on Jan. 19 at Nutt Auditorium.                     Summer Sunset Series concludes this Sunday with the Germantown Symphony
