No alcohol on Sunday
After more than a year of on-again, off-again debate on whether to allow some form of alcohol sales in Oxford on Sunday, the Oxford Board of Aldermen on Tuesday voted 6-1 to deny an effort to even test the idea. (June 2, 2010, Page 1)
Let’s look at other towns offering Sunday alcohol sales
Local restaurant owner John M. Currence writes, in a guest column, that there are two distinct sides appearing unable to give much ground in the debate over allowing the sale of alcohol in Oxford on Sundays, and he suggests that the best way to reach a compromise might be for both sides to take a look at other communities that allow Sunday sales. Alcohol on Sunday?
BREAKING NEWS — The Board of Aldermen approved to form a committee to research the possibility of future Sunday sales including a change in laws and restrictions to redefine restaurants and bars as well as other needed ordinances. The motion carried 4-3.
The Board of Aldermen denied 6-1 to request Sunday Alcohol Sales from the Alcoholic Beverage Control on 4th of July and home football weekends for this year with the restaurants being open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Alderman-at-large John Morgan voted for the proposal.
