    Board OKs Sunday alcohol sales

While the Board of Aldermen approved Sunday alcohol sales for on-premise permit holders on Tuesday, supporters should wait to pop the cork to celebrate until Mayor Pat Patterson decides if he will veto the issue. If he does not, than the city must wait for state approval. The board also heard the first reading of an ordinance amendment allowing Sunday off-premise sales from noon to 6 p.m. which means beer and light wine could be sold at convenience stores. The mayor promised to veto the issue if passed. (December 8, 2010, Page 1)

      Sunday alcohol sales endorsed

The Alcohol Task Force unanimously agreed to recommend Sunday sales to the Board of Aldermen during their meeting on Thursday. Along with requesting sales at local restuarants, the task force suggested allowing off-premise sales at convenience stores. The suggestions will be given to the Board of Aldermen at their Oct. 19 meeting. (October 8, 2010, Page 1, 9A)

Randy Yates writes about his time in Oxford and his impressions of the local bar and restaurant scene, asking why Sunday should be treated any differently than the other six days of the week, while the L-O-U Homeless Task Force writes to thank the City of Oxford for supporting the Interfaith Compassion Ministry. (August 17, 2010, Page 4)

            Sunday sales OK with owners

If Sunday alcohol sales are allowed in Oxford, most local bar and restaurant operators say they would support expanding alcohol services. A survey conducted by the Oxford EAGLE found that most restaurants are in support of Sunday sales and agree the issue is important, but owners are not sure if they would open just because of alcohol sales. (August 16, 2010, Page 1)

              Any ideas on Sunday sales?

Oxford will finally have its say in the on-going debate regarding Sunday alcohol sales. The newly formed Oxford Alcohol Committee wants more feedback from the public and is giving the public two weeks to respond to an online survey. Citizens interested in responding can make their feelings known about Sunday alcohol sales by going to the city website and submitting responses. (August 13, 2010, Page 1)
