Cleanup continues around the county

    Strong winds cause damage

    A short but powerful storm ripped through Oxford Thursday, causing trees to fall on power lines and blocking some roads and causing some minor damage at Lafayette High School’s athletic fields. (May 31, 2013, Page 1A)

      Area braces for storms

      The National Weather Service issued a severe storm warning for Lafayette County. Strong thunderstorms are expected tonight between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. that could produce hail, high winds and tornadoes. (January 29, 2013, Page 1, 3)

        SWM to expand in Oxford

        SWM took a hard hit in April when straight-line winds almost destroyed the plant in the Lafayette County Industrial Park. However, the uniform-making industry is not only rebuilding but expanding its Oxford location which could lead to more jobs for area residents. (July 26, 2011, Page 1)

          Another storm blows through

          While no tornadoes were reported, straight-line winds that blew through Lafayette County Wednesday night toppled dozens of trees cause some minor to moderate damage on several homes throughout the Oxford area and widespread power outages. (May 26, 2011, Page 1)

            Directions to the road to recovery

            Around 70 to 80 people gathered at Pine Flat United Methodist Church Wednesday night to take part in a community meeting dealing with recovery efforts from the EF-3 tornado and straight-line winds that struck Lafayette County on April 27. Officials discussed ways to contact and file claims with FEMA officials, as well as ways to handle debris left by the violent storm. (May 5, 2011, Page 1)
