Dropping subject test requirement a positive move

It’s good to see our state lawmakers and top educators on the same page with the state House’s vote showing support for the announcement that subject area test results will no longer be an independent factor that determines whether or not a senior can graduate. (March 5, 2015, Page 4A)

    Ed funding vote shows lawmakers’ feelings

    Editor Tim Phillips writes that while it wasn’t a big surprise, it was disappointing to see the Mississippi House of Representatives vote for education funding more than $205 million under what would have been fully funding the Mississippi Adequate Education Program. (February 23, 2015, Page 4)

      Education needs to be left up to educators

      There is a growing concern among educators around the state that Legislators feel they’re more qualified than teachers and administrators to decide on how to run schools. We hope our lawmakers think about the overall good of our children and their educations rather than politics. (February 3, 2015, Page 4)

        Republican rep’s words could backfire

        We hope all our state lawmakers do what’s best for the state when it comes to dealing with new laws, changes to laws and funding. We also suggest they watch carefully what they say, especially if it’s something they would really rather be left alone. (January 12, 2015, Page 4)
