Scribner wins half marathon in Run For Hope

Robert Scribner of Starkville and Fowler Staines of Oxford claimed top male and female honors in the half marathon, while Oxford’s Jonathan Tyler and Morgan Claire Rose of Grenada led the men’s and women’s runners in the 5K portion of the fifth-annual Oxford Run For Hope Half Marathon and 5K held Saturday morning. Winners of the top awards are listed, with all of the top finishers to be listed in Tuesday’s sports section in The Oxford EAGLE. (February 24, 2014, Page 3)

          Coaches pick Preseason All-SEC teams

          Ole Miss and Mississippi State each had one first-team selection – linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche for the Rebels and offensive lineman Gabe Jackson for the Bulldogs – and five other second- and third-team choices apiece on the Preseason SEC Coaches All-SEC team. (August 23, 2013, Page 6A)

            Area teams open 2013 seasons tonight

            Tough pre-regional schedules are the rule rather than the exception for Oxford, Lafayette and Water Valley high schools as they open their 2013 slates tonight. Oxford hosts defending MAIS champion Jackson Prep, Class 4A Lafayette travels to Class 6A Tupelo and Class 3A Water Valley plays at defending Region 2-4A champion New Albany. All three games have 7 p.m. kickoffs and can be heard on local radio stations. (August 23, 2013, Page 7A)
