July’s Art Crawl adds new exhibit venues

OXFORD TOWN – As summer continues to heat up the L-O-U community, so does the Oxford Art Crawl. The popular monthly event will take place Tuesday, July 24, from 7-9 p.m. at the Powerhouse, Gallery 130, Southside Gallery and the University Museum. Turn to Page 12 in Oxford Town No. 988 to check out the Powerhouse’s cool new mural and see what new exhibits have been scheduled to be part of the crawl this month at selected spaces around town. (July 19, 2012, Page 12)

    Arts Talk: Southside Gallery features the “Burlap Exhibit”

    OXFORD TOWN – Southside Gallery is featuring a new exhibit this month titled “Burlap.” The exhibit is a family show featuring couple Linda Burgess and William Dunlap and their daughter, Maggie Dunlap. Head out to Southside to see this exhibit either at the Art Crawl on March 27 or at a reception to be held Friday, March 23, from 7-9 p.m. If you can’t make either of those events, Southside Gallery is conveniently open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.       Artist/musician Jon Langford visits TMR, Soutshide Gallery and Two Stick Sushi Bar

      OXFORD TOWN – Artist, musician and “Champion of misfits” Jon Langford is set for performances and art exhibitions all over Oxford this weekend, beginning with Thacker Mountain Radio tonight (Thursday, March 1) at Off Square Books. Pages 7 and 12 in Oxford Town No. 968 has tons of  information about the native Welshman who now calls Chicago home. And, if you can’t make the TMR broadcast this evening, plan to hit Two Stick on Friday, March 2, for an acoustic performance by Langford who is in town supporting an exhibit of his works at Southside Gallery. (March 1, 2012, Page 7, 12)

          Oxford ‘crawls’ to art

          OXFORD TOWN – The Oxford Art Crawl begins its 2012 season this Tuesday (Jan. 24). The ongoing event will be held the fourth Tuesday of each month from January through October, lasting from 7-9 p.m. The “crawl” events are free and offer tours of the rotating exhibits at Oxford’s art spaces with small receptions held at each stop. Turn to Page 9 in this week’s issue of Oxford Town has information about the rotating art event set to return next Tuesday. (January 19, 2012, Page 9)

            Southside Gallery features artists Jere Allen, Ron Dale

            OXFORD TOWN – Southside Gallery is now exhibiting paintings by local artist and former University of Mississippi painting professor Jere Allen and new sculptures (pictured here) by local artist and former University of Mississippi ceramics professor Ron Dale.               “LES FEMMES ENCHANTEUR” – Southside Gallery

              OXFORD TOWN – Oxford figurative artist Stan O’Dell’s latest exhibit, “Les Femmes Enchanteur,” opens Oct. 4 at Southside Gallery. The exhibit celebrates the beauty, grace and mystery of women.                 Art abounds around town

                OXFORD TOWN – Last week, the University Museum unveiled its latest art exhibit “One World, Two Artists; John Alexander and Walter Anderson” headlining a frenzied art explosion all around the L-O-U community. Other exhibits include the showing of Bozarts Art Gallery’s exhibit “12 Invite 12,” the Powerhouse’s ongoing exhibit “Costal Art Show” and a new exhibit at Southside Gallery (photos on Page 12). The 2010 painting on the Oxford Town cover this week is titled “Octopus” by Alexander and the photo seen here titled “Stormy Monday” is also by Alexander.                   The Oxford Art Crawl returns in a big way

                  OXFORD TOWN – Back by popular demand, the Oxford Art Crawl returns as a regular summer event and everyone’s invited. Featured stops on Tuesday, June 28, will include Gallery 130, the Powerhouse, the University Museum and several other venues.                     Get Revived! The Oxford Rhythm Revival returns this weekend

                    OXFORD TOWN – Gear up for one of the coolest “revivals” in the region as the 2011 version of the Oxford Rhythm Revival cranks up around the Oxford Square this Saturday (June 18). Mississippi native Lynn Drury, Memphis legend rocker Keith Sykes, Shannon McNally, fiddle prodigy Ruby Jane (pictured), Gina Sexton, Marlena Jarjoura and Taylor Hildebrand are just of few of the names that will keep Oxford jumping this Saturday night. The fun begins on Saturday morning on the Courthouse lawn and continues until the last note is played at Proud Larry’s, Rooster’s Blues House and Soulshine Pizza at midnight.
