WATER VALLEY — The smile on Kary Bridges’ face said all that needed to be said about Tuesday’s 4-2 win over South Pontotoc at Blue Devil Field. Water Valley’s baseball leader may not have any hair later this week — Bridges made a bet he was to shave his head if his team won — because of the Blue Devils’ most recent 2-3A victory that garnered them a spot in the playoffs, but he likely won’t care.

The South Pontotoc Cougars will be limping into Friday night’s Region 2-3A matchup at Water Valley having lost five straight games. Even with the Cougars’ current slide, Blue Devils head coach Brad Embry said his team won’t be overlooking their upcoming opponent. (October 4, 2012, Page 8)
Oxford and Lafayette jump started the round robin portion NEMCABB Tournament in a big way Thursday at Edwin Moak Field.
Lafayette defeated Oxford’s junior varsity squad 6-0 and then defeated South Pontotoc 11-1 in five innings.

WATER VALLEY — A few small mistakes and a couple of decisions coach Kary Bridges wished he could have back ended up deciding Monday night’s regular season finale for the Water Valley Blue Devils. Water Valley entered the Division 2-3A matchup with South Pontotoc at Blue Devil field winners of 10 straight.
That stat is now winners in 10 of the last 11 games after South Pontotoc edged the Blue Devils 5-3.
Monday’s setback cost the Blue Devils (14-11 overall) the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Class 3A playoffs. WVHS will now play Winona in the first round, and since higher seeds decide how the best-of-three series is set up, the Blue Devils will likely have to defeat the Tigers at their home park Saturday in order to advance. WATER VALLEY — Fresh off of a thrilling overtime victory at Mooreville, the Blue Devils football team isn’t focusing as much on Friday’s opponent, the 2-5 South Pontotoc Cougars, as they are on themselves.

The South Pontotoc Cross Country teams will be hosting the 5K Cougar Run and Mile Fun Run on July 23 at the high school will proceeds going to benefit the programs.

A late rally wasn’t enough to lift the Water Valley Blue Devils to a win over South Pontotoc on Tuesday night. WVHS fell 8-7 despite three hits each from Taylor King, John Michael Grimmett and J.D.
