Oxford man arrested for murder

An Oxford man was one of two arrested this week in the shooting death of a Batesville native in Water Valley on New Year’s Eve. Spencer T. Morgan of Oxford and James Johnson Jr. were charged with murder for shooting Latonya DeWayne Carr. (January 25, 2013, Page 1A)

    Board denies parole for Jenkins

    The Mississippi Parole Board denied parole for Anthony Jenkins, 45, who convicted in 1987 for killing 4-year-old James Neal Freeman and wounding Debi Freeman in 1985 with a rifle while the family was driving along College Hill Road.

    Jenkins was sentenced to life in prison and has been up for parole three times but has been denied each time. The latest hearing was held in January. He will be eligible again in 2014. (January 31, 2011, Page 2)

      Autry gets new lawyer

      A man accused of shooting and killing his brother and holding his father hostage for several hours was given a new attorney and more time before heading for trial during a hearing on Friday at the Lafayette County Courthouse.

      Bilethon Autry’s trial was continued Friday by Circuit Court Judge Andrew Howorth until the April court term to allow more time for his new attorney to prepare his case. (January 17, 2011, Page 1)
