Former OM recruit excited to play in Oxford

One former Rebel recruit will get a chance to play at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium after all.

On Saturday, Marlon Brown will jog out of the visitor’s tunnel and on to Jerry Hollingsworth Field as a member of the Georgia Bulldogs.

As a four-star receiver at Harding Academy in Memphis, Brown was considered the state’s top recruit for the 2009 signing class and when it came down to choosing where he’d play college ball, Brown selected Georgia over other finalists Ohio State, Tennessee and Ole Miss. (September 23, 2011, Page 6A)

Sunday felt like the perfect day to make it official.

Waguespack picks Ole Miss over LSU

The Ole Miss Diamond Rebels went to a somewhat unlikely place to snag its eighth verbal commitment for the 2012 signing class.

On Friday, Dutchtown (Baton Rouge, La.) High right-hander Jacob Waguespack called recruiting coordinator Carl Lafferty to formally commit to the Rebels.

“I’m at the East Coast Pro Showcase right now and I wanted to (commit) before that, so I went ahead and did it Friday,” he said Sunday. (more…) (August 1, 2011, Page 8A)

Robison still hopeful for Ole Miss football offer

Chase Robison is tired of hearing coaches say they still need to “evaluate” him.

The 6-foot-4, 228-pound defensive end from Christian Brothers (Memphis) worked out at Ole Miss’ senior day on Saturday and felt he really made the case that he should earn a scholarship offer. (more…) (July 29, 2011, Page 8A)
