Alejandro’s Back!

OXFORD TOWN – Alejandro Escovedo returns to Oxford next Tuesday (Sept. 14)  for  a Larry Brown tribute set and discussion at Off Square Books at 5 p.m. followed by a full concert at Proud Larry’s later that night. Oxford EAGLE News Editor Jonathan Scott talked to Escovedo about the shows, his new album titled “Street Songs of Love” and Oxford, one of his favorite cities in which to visit and perform. “Street Songs of Love” features “high powered vocal support” from legends such as Ian Hunter of Mott the Hoople and Bruce Springsteen.     Colour Revolt rocks Proud Larry’s tonight

    OXFORD TOWN – The local band Colour Revolt (sporting band new band members)  is making a splash around the country and they’re headed back to Oxford via Proud Larry’s tonight (Thursday, Aug. 26) in support of their new album “The Cradle.” Kate Anthony’s coverage of one of Oxford’s most successful duos and their new band members can be found on Page 11 of this week’s issue of Oxford Town. (August 26, 2010, Page 11)

      ‘Mosquitoville’ launches Oxford Rhythm Revival tonight at Lyric

      OXFORD TOWN – Thacker Mountain Radio will present a special benefit show tonight (Thursday, June 17) at the Lyric Theater kicking off Oxford’s first Rhythm Revival featuring Jimbo Mathus and his musical “Mosquitoville.” Find full details of the family-friendly show in this week’s edition of Oxford Town.         Charlie Mars returns to Oxford

        OXFORD TOWN – Resident musician Charlie Mars returns to Oxford and the stage at Proud Larry’s this Saturday night (June 12) for a stop on his nationwide tour promoting his 2009 record “Like a Bird, Like a Plane.” The Manhattan-based band, Harper Blynn, is scheduled to open the show.           Oxford’s newest band, Shooting Out The Lights, rocks Proud Larry’s

          OXFORD TOWN – Thanks to a late night text, five friends contacted each other and immediately formed the new band Shooting Out The Lights. The guys consider themselves a “luxury rock” band that will play its first live performance at Proud Larry’s this Saturday.             The Minor Adjustments

            OXFORD TOWN – The Minor Adjustments may be a new name to the Oxford music scene, but its members definitely are not. Members of this awesome new “project” in town hail from other acts including Mayhem String Band, Daybreakdown, Shady Deal, Good Paper, Tate Moore and the Cosmic Door, Jimbo Mathus and the Tri-State Coalition and others.               Dan Montgomery at Proud Larry’s

              Memphis’ acclaimed Americana artist Dan Montgomery will play Proud Larry’s on Saturday, May 15, at 8 p.m. His current band includes guitarist Robert Mache — formerly of The Continental Drifters, a longtime Oxford favorite — along with J.D. Westmorland of Devil Train on bass; Louis Jay Meyers from Killbilly on pedal steel and banjo; Jesse Williams, known for his work with Grace Askew on drums; and special guest Candace Mache singing harmony. They’ll be performing songs from their just-completed new album “You’ll Never Be A Bird,” due for release this summer. (April 27, 2010)

                Oxford’s Rosamond Posey balances law and music

                OXFORD TOWN – Local attorney and musician Rosamond Posey and The Posey Family Band will be rocking at Proud Larry’s on Wednesday evenings from 6-8 for the next two weeks where crawfish and rock ‘n’ roll will rule the night. Business suits, cowboy boots and center stages – Posey is, without a doubt, one of the hardest working (and playing) women in Oxford.                   Shannon’s back

                  OXFORD TOWN – Shannon McNally has surrounded herself with band members that she considers “family” – and one of them actually is; her husband, drummer Wallace Lester. The band’s latest album “Coldwater” was recently released and they have hit the road in a big way to support it. One stop of that tour is next week at Proud Larry’s on March 11. McNally talks with Oxford Town’s Kate Anthony about her influences, defining a genre and the late Jim Dickinson, producer of “Coldwater.” (March 4, 2010, Page 11)
