Pontotoc ends Lafayette’s season
Lafayette’s run in the MHSAA Class 4A playoffs came to an end Monday with a 6-1 loss to Pontotoc at the courts behind Oxford-University Stadium.
The young Commodores, who only lose one senior, finished the year 7-6 overall.

‘Dores coping with loss of a friend, teammate
This has been a difficult week for the Lafayette County community, not because of something football related, but because of the death of LHS student John Mills.
Mills was a member of the LHS powerlifting team and while he quit playing football following his sophomore season, he was still a constant presence around the program. (September 20, 2012, Page 8)

Lafayette Commodores win in typical fashion, cruise past Warriors
Lafayette’s whooping of Pontotoc on Friday was a pretty typical win for the Commodores.
If you’ve seen the ‘Dores this season, you know what that means.
Lafayette came out fast against the Warriors at William L. Buford Stadium, got an early lead and was able to play its reserves for much of the second half in the 48-7 victory. (September 26, 2011, Page 3B)

Mills’ field goal lifts Chargers to win
A 36-yard field goal from Cody Mills as time expired lifted the Oxford Chargers to a 9-6 win over Pontotoc in junior varsity action Tuesday night at Bobby Holcomb Field. In games that are designed to improve the skills of the players who will eventually be full-time members of the varsity, getting the opportunity to kick a game-winning field goal is an added bonus for all involved.
Mills, who had to stay focused after Pontotoc’s coach called a timeout just before he kicked, credited the snap and the hold for him having success. (September 7, 2011, Page 6)

Lafayette falls to Pontotoc in tennis
The Commodores narrowly missed out winning in boys doubles and mixed doubles Thursday in their tennis match with Pontotoc. The setbacks ended up resulting into a 5-2 win for Pontotoc. Mallory Davis earned one of the two points for LHS in the match as she defeated Lauren Clayton 6-1, 6-1 in singles action. The other win for the Commodores came at No. 2 boys doubles as Hunter Knight and Jacob Roberts topped Jacob Hatcher and Jacob Ferguson 6-1, 7-5. (more…) (March 4, 2011, Page 8A)
