Oxford’s reversal of fortune on the gridiron this season was a result of many different players. For a team that was 5-6 and not in the playoffs in 2011, an 11-2 overall record and a trip to the semifinals of the MHSAA Class 5A playoffs in 2012 took a lot of hard work on the part of several top players. Jessica Pearson always had a knack of turning nothing into something.
As the setter on Oxford’s volleyball team, it wasn’t uncommon to see Pearson not only set up a teammate for the kill when the Lady Chargers’ passing was on point, but also go sprawling out of bounds in an attempt to keep the play alive. (more…) (October 25, 2012, Page 1B)
Liggins’ leadership, dedication paced LHS in 2011
There were a lot reasons why the Lafayette Commodores finished the season ranked No. 1 overall in the state and with a second straight MHSAA Class 4A state title trophy to put on display. A bevy of talented players and a very organized coaching staff are at the top of the list of reasons why the Commodores reeled off another 16-0 season, but leadership provided by key players was also a major reason for the immense success.
