Tornado victims come together to rebuild
Driving down the roads where the tornado carved a path from the Highway 7-9 split, down to Pine Flat, through the Yocona community and ending at Highway 6 East, destruction is evident almost everywhere the eye can see. From fallen trees to houses missing roofs to homes demolished. What can also be seen is neighbor helping neighbor. (May 6, 2011, Page 1B)
Directions to the road to recovery
Around 70 to 80 people gathered at Pine Flat United Methodist Church Wednesday night to take part in a community meeting dealing with recovery efforts from the EF-3 tornado and straight-line winds that struck Lafayette County on April 27. Officials discussed ways to contact and file claims with FEMA officials, as well as ways to handle debris left by the violent storm. (May 5, 2011, Page 1)
More help for storm victims
More help is on its way for the victims of the tornado that ripped through Pine Flat last week. A public meeting at Pine Flat United Methodist Church at 6 p.m. Wednesday will have information on what help might be available through federal and state emergency management agencies and a free concert will be held at 6 p.m. in front of Oxford City Hall. Organizers are asking for donations of water, diapers, canned foods and cash for tornado victims. (May 3, 2011, Page 1)
