Northwest wins thriller in season opener
SENATOBIA — Thursday night’s matchup between the No. 9 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers and No. 8 Pearl River Wildcats resembled more of a MACJC state championship game than a season opener. In a contest where both teams combined for over 1,000 yards of offense and multiple big plays, it was the Rangers that were able to hold off PRCC in overtime to come away with a 56-55 win. NWCC Rangers get physical in win
A rugged and physical style of play in all three phases proved to be the winning formula for the No. 23 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers in their season opener Thursday night.
The Rangers mauled their way to a 27-17 win over No. 13 Pearl River by clamping down on the Wildcats when the going got tough and utilizing a team-first concept that coach Ricky Woods has tried to instill into his players all offseason. (September 3, 2010, Page 8A)
