Versatile Smith took her game to another level
Heading into this season Lafayette volleyball coach Rachel Wenzel was faced with a rather large problem: How could the Lady Commodores replace the production and leadership that left along with the graduated senior class?
She knew it would be no easy task, but senior middle blocker Ashley Smith went to Wenzel and requested that her coach trust her enough to allow her to play all the way around, rather than be substituted in the back row. (more…) (October 26, 2011, Page 1B)

Oxford earns home sweep of Clarksdale
Tara Ross proposed a deal her volleyball players couldn’t refuse: Win Thursday’s match against Clarksdale in three straight sets and there will be no practice on Friday.
The Lady Chargers responded to the wager. After cruising through the first two sets, Oxford had to rally to claim the third set and the match 3-0 (25-6, 25-7, 25-23). (September 23, 2011, Page 6A)

Lady Chargers fall to Lake Cormorant

OHS rides fast starts to crosstown sweep
Quick starts in all three matches by Oxford, coupled with Lafayette’s inability to get into a groove until it was too late, led to the Lady Chargers claiming a 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-23) victory in the Crosstown Classic’s volleyball edition at the OHS gym on Thursday.
The match marked the first time in three seasons that the Lady Chargers have come away with the crosstown victory.
In each of the three games Oxford was able to jump out to a 6-1 lead. (August 19, 2011, Page 9A)
OHS holds on to top Lady Warriors
A hard-fought, five-game match with Senatobia may not have been the most ideal way for the Oxford Lady Chargers to start their home schedule, but for coach Tara Ross, a win as the end result was all that really mattered.
Oxford overcame a sluggish start to defeat the Lady Warriors 3-2 (22-25, 25-19, 25-13, 19-25, 15-11) and earn their first win in the OHS gym in the process. Ross was able to work on some new rotations during the contest in the attempt to gain consistency moving forward while also inserting some other players that haven’t seen as much time into the match. Oxford volleyball goes 1-1 at Tupelo
