Pearson makes all the plays and more for OHS

Jessica Pearson always had a knack of turning nothing into something.

As the setter on Oxford’s volleyball team, it wasn’t uncommon to see Pearson not only set up a teammate for the kill when the Lady Chargers’ passing was on point, but also go sprawling out of bounds in an attempt to keep the play alive. (more…) (October 25, 2012, Page 1B)

    Raby proud of progress MS program is showing

    The Oxford Middle School volleyball program recently concluded its season and according to coach Wendy Raby, this year was a huge success for the young Lady Chargers.

    Two weekends ago, OMS wrapped up its season by participating in the 2012 Coca-Cola Middle School Invitational Volleyball Tournament hosted by Tupelo.

    Oxford’s eighth-grade team won one game before being eliminated from the single-elimination tournament while the seventh graders ended up defeated DeSoto Central in the championship game. (October 1, 2012, Page 3B)

      Oxford ends season on high note

      The 2012 season didn’t go the way Oxford had hoped, but Thursday night’s season finale provided at least a little solace for the home team.

      Looking to end the season on a high note, the Lady Chargers earned a convincing 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-18) victory over Corinth at the OHS gym. (September 28, 2012, Page 7A)

        LHS wins hard-fought Crosstown match

        Nothing says Crosstown volleyball match like having to claw and scratch for every point.

        That’s exactly what happened Tuesday at the Oxford High gym as the visiting Lady Commodores claimed a 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-17) victory over the host school. (September 12, 2012, Page 7)

          OHS unable to find rally magic again

          The Oxford High volleyball team staged one of the program’s more impressive comebacks in recent years Tuesday, rallying from an early deficit to defeat Hernando in five sets.

            OHS claims exciting win

            The Oxford volleyball team (8-4 overall) won in exciting fashion Tuesday, claiming a 3-2 (6-25, 25-17, 19-25, 26-24, 15-8) win at Hernando. (more…) (August 22, 2012, Page 7)

              Oxford rallies to top Senatobia

              It wasn’t pretty, but the Lady Chargers volleyball team rallied from an early deficit to defeat Senatobia 3-2 (18-25, 24-26, 25-10, 25-19, 15-12) on Tuesday.

              Emily Mims had a team-high 12 kills, while Anna Katherine Kessinger and Sara Mims each contributed 11 kills to the cause.  Setter Jessica Pearson also led OHS with 40 assists. Next up for Oxford is a crosstown showdown at Lafayette on Thursday starting with a junior varsity match at 4 p.m. (August 15, 2012, Page 7)

                Lady Warriors no match for Oxford

                  Lady Chargers claim home opener

                  The Lady Chargers volleyball squad got Oxford’s 2012-13 school year off to a good start Tuesday by sweeping the visiting Ripley Lady Tigers 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-14) at the OHS gym.

                  The performance was far from perfect, but for an OHS squad that returns just four members from the 2011 varsity squad, a win is a win. (August 8, 2012, Page 7)

                    Oxford High volleyball team holding golf tournament

                    The Oxford Lady Chargers will hold their second annual benefit golf tournament. The tournament will be held July 28 at the Country Club of Oxford. Cost to enter is $85 per person or $340 per team and it includes 18 holes of golf and golf cart. Those that can play in the tournament can sponsor a hole for $100 or a beverage cart for $200.
