Tennis has been more than a sport for Oxford High’s Zach Wilder, it’s been a way of life since he can remember. As the son of a successful collegiate tennis player who has competed against some of the best players in the region and been cradled by some top instructors over the years, tennis has helped define Wilder’s past, present and future. Oxford’s final regular season match of the season ended with a 7-0 win over Pontotoc on Monday. The Chargers made short work of the Warriors thanks to a 6-0, 6-0 win by Zach Wilder at boys singles and a 6-3, 6-0 win by Ann Marie Edlin over Kristen Pennigton. The No. 1 boys doubles team of Baxter Elliott and Robert Nance topped Cam Temmons and Ryan Henry 6-3 6-3, while the No. 2 boys doubles team of Quinn Elliott and Will Swindoll beat Denton McAuley and Brandon Temmons 6-4, 6-0. COLUMN: Oxford High tennis coach Louis Nash doesn’t like to brag about his long list of accomplishments. Never has, likely never will.
It’s rare to find a coach, in any sport, that has done as much as Nash has done at three different high schools.
