    Oxford JV tennis falls to New Albany

    A visit from New Albany Monday at Avent Park didn’t turn out to be a positive for the Oxford JV tennis team. New Albany topped the Chargers 4-2 in matches, including three of four doubles matches. Callan Shinall earned the victory for the Chargers in boys singles, 6-3, 6-6 (7-2) over Dylan Mills.         Oxford wins first division match

        The Oxford tennis team got its 2011 season and district play off to a fast start Tuesday with a 7-0 win over West Point on the road. The Chargers had little trouble dispatching the Green Wave thanks to a solid overall performance led by boys singles player Zach Wilder, who defeated Carson Miller 6-0, 6-0.           Chargers down Pontotoc in tennis

          Oxford’s preseason match with Pontotoc went according to plan as the Chargers won  all 12 doubles matches.

          In girls matches, Mary Bryan Barksdale and Sterling Davis defeated Haylee Waller and Lauren Clayton; Erin Dyer and Ann Marie Edlin topped Ivy Robbins and Shannon Montgomery; Kara Rose and Embrey Inman defeated Kristen Pennington and Ali Warren; Sarah Nash and McClellan Davis teammed up to beat Meridith Adams and Sarah Hill, and Ellie Devoe and Emily Morgan beat Molly Chamblee and Bailey Mooran.

          On the boys side, Zach Wilder and Andrew Mullen topped Cameron Timmons and Jacob Ferguson; Robert Nance and Baxter Elliot topped Deaton McAuley and Ryan Henry; Will Swindoll and Quinn Elliot beat Jacob Hatcher and Brayden Timmons; John Arlis Williams and Judston Watson topped Piercen Burchfield and Austin Anderson; Callan Shinall and Collier Phillips easily dispatched Rhett Stegall and Blake Anderson; Sam Peeler and Liam Cooper had no trouble beating Jessi Tutop and Dyllon Maddox and the duo of Cole Atkins and Gus Morgan beat Blake Gregory and Caleb Ginn.

            OHS looking to win fourth-straight title

            Oxford’s drive to win a fourth-straight state title in tennis will begin Saturday with a preseason match against Pontotoc at the John Leslie Tennis Courts.

                Chargers near perfect to wrap up State

                  Charger netters shut out Hernando

                    OHS makes quick work of NCHS

                    Oxford rolled through the first round of the Class 5A playoffs, their first in the new classification, with a 4-0 win over Neshoba Central on Friday. Three matches were in progress when things were called because of inclement weather. (April 26, 2010, Page 3B)
