Jackets swarm Chargers in second round

Motivated by what Starkville head coach Brian Bennett described as a less than desired performance in their regular-season matchup with Oxford, the visiting Jackets played an aggressive breed of soccer that netted them a 4-2 road victory and a trip to the third round of the Class 5A playoffs.

The loss eliminates the Chargers (13-3-3 overall) from the playoffs. (January 30, 2012, Page 2B)

    Oxford teams set to face familiar opponent in SHS

    The coaching staffs of the Oxford soccer teams didn’t have to do a lot of additional scouting heading into Saturday’s Class 5A second-round matchup against Starkville.

      Pressure leads Oxford to second round

      Heading into Tuesday night’s annual postseason showdown with Callaway, the Oxford Chargers coaches knew a couple of things: The visiting Chargers were going to be athletic, fast, and able to capitalize on any chances they were provided.

      So what did Oxford do against its Class 5A first-round opponent?

      The home Chargers attacked, kept pressure on Callaway and continued to attack even in the dwindling minutes of their 3-1 victory at Bobby Holcomb Field. (January 25, 2012, Page 6)

        Oxford proves to be better Lady Charger squad in first-round matchup

        It’s hard to imagine the Lady Chargers could have been any more dominant than they were on Tuesday night.

        Aided by a big first half, the Oxford girls cruised to a 8-0 victory over Callaway in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs at Bobby Holcomb Field. (January 25, 2012, Page 6)

          Oxford teams head into Class 5A playoffs on roll

          The conclusion of the regular season for the Chargers and Lady Chargers has left the two soccer programs feeling optimistic heading into the playoffs.

          On the heels of convincing victories at Saltillo to claim respective Division 2-5A titles last week, Oxford will head into tonight’s Class 5A first-round pairing against Callaway at Bobby Holcomb Field riding a wave of confidence. (January 24, 2012, Page 8)

            LHS-OHS games canceled, teams ready for playoff runs

            Saturday’s Oxford-Lafayette soccer games were canceled due to rain the night before. Because Saturday was the last day of the regular season, the soccer version of the Crosstown Classic will not be rescheduled. (more…) (January 23, 2012, Page 3B)

                    OHS seniors go out with a bang

                    The Oxford soccer programs punctuated their seasons on Tuesday with convincing wins over divisional foe West Point.
