Different districts, different start dates

Lafayette School districts will change their school start dates back to their normal days, but Oxford schools will keep the later start to due to construction delays. The bill that Governor Phil Bryant signed allows schools to choose their own start dates. (March 28, 2014, Page 1A)

    Arbuckle named top teacher in OSD

    Chasity Arbuckle was recently named teacher of the year for 2013-14. She will go on to represent the Oxford School District in the Mississippi Teacher of the Year program in the spring. (February 17, 2014, Page 1)

      Bill has no effect on OSD teachers’ pay

      Oxford School District teachers’ pay will not be effected by a later start date for students in August. Teachers will start a week before students.

        Local teachers earn board certification

        Nine local teachers earned their certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in late December. Oxford, Lafayette and Water Valley districts are home to now 106 of the 3,557 board certified teachers in Mississippi. (January 10, 2014, Page 1A)

          Bramlett student left behind on bus

          On the first day back to school a Bramlett first-grader was mistakenly left on a school bus after the child fell asleep. The driver did not follow protocol to check for the student. (January 8, 2014, Page 1)

            School budget cut when classes cut

            Oxford School District may lose $300,000 to $400,000 due to lower attendance numbers last semester. According to House Bill 1530, students must now be present for 63 percent of the school day. (January 3, 2014, Page 1A)

              OSD food program wins challenge

              The Good Food for Oxford Schools program recently won the TEDxManhattan challenge with more than 2,700 votes. GFOS coordinator, Sunny Young, will speak in the next conference in California in March about the Oxford schools program. (December 19, 2013, Page 1A)
