Early report on laptops mixed

The Oxford School Board was informed of an update at last night’s board meeting on the One to One Initiative that gave each student in the high school and middle school a laptop. While damages were reported as very minimal some parents have questioned just how much the laptop is a distraction for their child. (October 28, 2014, Page 1)

    Ethics Commission OKs Kendricks’ campaign

    Oxford School Board elections are coming up quick and certain questions arose concerning the ethics of runner Marni Kendricks possibly being elected. Kendricks sought the opinion of the Mississippi Ethics Commission and her situation was considered favorable. (October 10, 2014, Page 2A)

      OSD puts new focus on reading

      The Oxford School Board was made aware of 116 third-graders who either scored deficit on reading or are on the borderline and at risk for not moving onto the fourth grade. Parents of these children will be sent home a letter on Thursday detailing the reading intervention that their child needs. (September 23, 2014, Page 1)

        Candidates qualify for school boards

        Lafayette County and Oxford School District’s each have three qualifying candidates running for the open school board member positions. The elections for the members will be held with other general elections on Nov. 4. (September 10, 2014, Page 1)

            OSD releases AP, ACT scores

            The Oxford School Board announced the results of student scoring on Advanced Placement and ACT tests. AP scores were slightly down from last year. (August 26, 2014, Page 1)

                OSD OKs 2014-15 budget

                The Oxford School District voted to approve the 2014-15 budget with an ad valorem tax increase of 4 percent. The district will go before the Oxford Board of Alderman in August. (June 24, 2014, Page 1)

                  OSD eyes new grad policy

                  The Oxford School Board approved the first reading of a new early graduation policy. The policy will allow students to also graduate a semester early along with the already approved year early. (March 25, 2014, Page 1)
