Officer memorial Friday to honor fallen heroes

To honor all law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice, the Lafayette County Law Enforcement Association will hold a memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday in front of Oxford City Hall on the Square. (May 12, 2010, Page 2)

    A mountain-bike rescue

    Wesley Phillips, a long snapper for the Ole Miss football team, was injured while riding his mountain bike down a hill and he remained stranded for five hours before help arrived. Members of the Oxford and University Police Departments were involved in the search and rescue. (May 4, 2010, Page 1)

      City swats litter bugs

      On Wednesday, an Oxford Police Department officer issued a citation to the residents of a house on Beanland Drive that has had several complaints about leaving beer cans and other garbage laying around outside. City and county officials are seeing less intentional trash but uncovered garbage bags are wreaking havoc. (April 30, 2010, Page 1A)

          Burglars busy in county

          Burglaries in Lafayette County continue to keep investigators with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department busy. After a surge of residential burglaries in both the city of Oxford and county during the holidays, break-ins in the county continue at a steady rate. (March 31, 2010, Page 1)
