The Oxford Park Commission’s soccer league got off to a big start on Monday as three goals by Cole Calhoon and two by Keaton Calhoon helped lift the Under-12 boy’s Tornados top the Earthquakes 6-5. In the other U-12 boys game the Galaxy cruised past the Sounders 9-3. In the U-10 boy’s division, the Wizards and Fire tied 2-2 and United topped the Earthquakes 2-1.
In the U-10 girl’s division, United snuck past the Fire 4-3 and the Crew shut out the Galaxy 8-0. In the U-12 girl’s division, the Tornados defeated the Sounders 4-2 and the Galaxy blanked United 4-0. (February 15, 2011, Page 6)

The Oxford Park Commission’s Easter Egg Hunt is one of several Easter events planned for this weekend. Unfortunately, the National Weather Service says there is a 60-percent change of rain that could force many of the events to be canceled or rescheduled. (April 1, 2010, Page 1)
The Oxford Park Commission will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt at FNC Park Soccer Fields, located on Old Sardis Road and Highway 314, on April 3. The hunt will begin at 10 a.m. sharp for ages 10 and under. Children will be grouped according to age.
More than 7,000 eggs will be hidden and special “golden eggs” will be marked and can be redeemed for gift certificates and prizes. All participants are asked to bring at least one can good to be donated to The Pantry. The canned goods desired by The Pantry included soups, fruits and meats. Parents will not be allowed to accompany children during the egg hunt and kids need to bring their own baskets. The Easter Bunny will also be there.
