A former law enforcement officer has been charged with the murders of his mother and half-brother who were found shot to death in their home near the South Oaks subdivision Friday.
The Oxford Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred at about 6 this morning in the South Oaks subdivision. Carol Lavett Gary, 43, and her 12-year-old son were found dead. The Oxford Middle School boys track team competed in a rare Saturday meet at Aberdeen and saw its almost five-year winning streak on the track come to an end.
Columbus was the school that prevented the Chargers from finishing off another year with an unblemished record, earning a 138-135 victory. Some of the events the Chargers usually compete in, such as the 4×400 meter relay and the 300 hurdles, were not available to score points in. Still, OMS coach Mike Hardwick said the ultimate goal was the field two teams so that everyone got to run before the season concluded.

Oxford’s middle school track teams continue to produce fantastic results Tuesday. The Chargers won the OMS Relays over seven other teams, while the Lady Chargers took second in the meet held at Oxford High’s Bobby Holcomb Field.
Oxford’s middle school girls track team finished second and produced seven nine-place finishes.
