Lady Chargers roll to wins in Showdown
Shayne Linzy’s goals for his Lady Chargers heading into the annual “O” Town Showdown were met with convincing results. Oxford defeated Independence 83-32 Friday night and Ashland 71-32 Saturday, improving the Lady Chargers to 13-3 overall. Linzy wanted to see his team continue to take steps improving in all phases as the Lady Chargers’ non-division portion of their schedule came to a close. (December 31, 2012, Page 6)
Lady Chargers looking to garner final tuneup
The last big tuneup for the Oxford Lady Chargers comes this weekend in the annual “O” Town Showdown. Oxford will play two of its final three games before division play begins tonight and Saturday in the OHS gym. Oxford takes three games from Coldwater
Oxford was a pair of free throws away from earning a sweep in middle school girls basketball action in the season opener Thursday night. The seventh-grade Lady Chargers overcame a 16-6 deficit at the half of their game with Coldwater in the OHS gym, but couldn’t finish the deal in a 21-20 loss to the Lady Cougars. The eighth-grade Lady Chargers made up for the setback with a 33-4 win in the nightcap. Oxford’s seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball teams both earned wins to garner a sweep. There were several nervous moments for Oxford High volleyball coach Tara Ross in the Lafayette gym Thursday night. In a match that was decided on errors made by both teams as much as it was outstanding plays turned in, Ross knew that if her team focused better they had a shot at recovering from an early 2-1 deficit and earning a win over LHS.
