Oxford takes apart Callaway in 5A opener

Erika Sisk couldn’t wait to hit the court Monday night against Callaway. Oxford’s senior point guard said she woke up at 4:30 in the morning in anticipation of the MHSAA Class 5A playoff matchup in the OHS gym.

Sisk, along with her teammates, showed no signs of fatigue as the Lady Chargers easily defeated Callaway 79-63 to advance to this weekend’s North Half tournament that will be played in the OHS gym. (February 14, 2012, Page 8)

    Lady Chargers capture Division 2-5A title

    One of the Oxford Lady Chargers’ preseason goals was to capture the Division 2-5A Tournament title. Despite a second straight regular season title and a perfect overall record to be proud of, the victory the Lady Chargers wanted most came Friday with an 83-52 triumph over West Point in the 2-5A title game.       Chargers upset in 2-5A title game

        Oxford puts Coldwater on ice

        The Oxford gym provided a rocking atmosphere Friday for Senior Night.

          Region 2-5A Tournament announced

          The schedule and seeds for next week’s Region 2-5A Tournament in the Oxford High gym have been set. The Chargers and Lady Chargers are the No. 1 seeds in the tournament. Oxford’s girls will play Saltillo at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Chargers take on Saltillo at 5:30. The tournament opens with West Point meeting New Hope at 4 in a girls’ game, while New Hope and West Point meet in a boys’ contest at 8:30. The winners of the games will meet in the championship contests on Friday at 6 (girls) and 7:30 (boys). (February 2, 2012, Page 8)

            Oxford girls hoops defeat Grenada

            Another great team effort produced a 71-32 win over Grenada for the Oxford Lady Chargers Tuesday night. Erika Sisk led the way with 16 points and eight steals, while Kristen Dickerson and Alexus Malone scored 15 and 10 points respectively. Oxford improved to 25-0 with the win. The Lady Chargers’ junior varsity team also produced a win. Bre Pettis scored 13 points in the 33-13 win. The JV girls finished the year 7-1 overall. Both Oxford varsity teams finish out the regular season Friday night at home against Coldwater. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. (February 2, 2012, Page 8)

              OHS locks up Region 2-5A titles

              Region championships are something the Oxford Chargers and Lady Chargers are used to winning, so Friday’s accomplishments are no surprise.

              Both teams earned regular-season Region 2-5A crowns Friday night with wins over New Hope on the road before returning home to sweep Amory in the OHS gym Saturday. (more…) (January 30, 2012)

                Oxford sweeps Saltillo in hoops action

                Oxford’s varsity basketball teams earned two region wins over Saltillo on Tuesday night. The Lady Chargers remained undefeated and grabbed a share of the regular season region title with a 91-49 win over the Lady Tigers. Oxford’s boys improved to 17-7 overall and 4-1 in the region thanks to a 67-48 win. Erika Sisk led the Lady Chargers with a 27 points and eight steals. (more…) (January 26, 2012, Page 7)

                  Lady Chargers split with Pontotoc

                  Oxford’s seventh-grade girls defeated Pontotoc 18-9 Monday night in the OHS gym, but the eighth-grade Lady Chargers were unable to come up with a similar result as they lost 33-21.

                    Oxford finishes season with sweep of Pontotoc

                    Oxford’s middle school boys basketball teams finished the year on a high note with two wins over Pontotoc in the OHS gym Monday night. The seventh-grade Chargers avenged a loss earlier in the season to Pontotoc by topping the Warriors 20-16. The victory improved Oxford to 12-1 overall on the year. (more…) (January 24, 2012, Page 8)
