Chargers brace for Saltillo’s ground game

Oxford is all too familiar with Diamante Pounds. Saltillo’s senior running back has been wearing down Region 1-5A defenses for a season and a half. He finished with more than 2,000 yards last year in his first season with the Tigers after transferring from Shannon and is on pace for the same kind of production this season in Saltillo’s zone-read offense. There won’t be any surprises for the Chargers when Saltillo makes the trip to Bobby Holcomb Field on Friday for a matchup of region unbeatens. (October 2, 2014, Page 6A)

Lake Cormorant nets season sweep of Oxford

Oxford put up a better fight against Lake Cormorant, but in the end, the result was the same. Lake Cormorant sandwiched a pair of dominant sets around one that required a little more work, and the two-time defending Class II, Region 1 state champ swept Oxford for the second time this season with a 3-0 victory (25-17, 25-22, 25-14) Tuesday night at the new Oxford High gymnasium. (October 1, 2014, Page 1B)

OHS sweeps Clarksdale for first region win

Oxford volleyball coach Tara Ross wants her team to forget what’s happened the first half of the season and treat the second half as an entirely different season all together. It got off to a good start Tuesday night. The Chargers quickly took control of their match against Clarksdale and cruised to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-7, 25-11) win at the new Oxford High gymnasium. (September 17, 2014, Page 6)
