CANTON — Oxford’s well designed game plan was executed by the Lady Chargers the way coach Shayne Linzy was hoping for three plus quarters Tuesday night. NEW HOPE — The goals of winning the Division 2-5A Tournament title for the second straight season and earning a home playoff game Tuesday in the Class 5A playoffs didn’t materialize like Oxford Lady Chargers were hoping Friday night. Although OHS battled the New Hope Trojans down to the end and fared much, much better than the first meeting in the NHS gym, the Lady Chargers fell in the title game 64-58.
The New Hope Lady Trojans secured the Region 1-5A title Friday with a 67-46 victory at Oxford High on Friday.
Oxford rebounded from its loss to Tupelo Tuesday night in the OHS gym with a convincing 68-45 win over Charleston. Keyed by a decisive run in the first half, the Lady Chargers (6-2 overall) showed balance on offense and defense in the victory over the Lady Tigers.
OHS coach Shayne Linzy said it was good to see his team overcome an early seven-point deficit and then put the loss to Tupelo, which ended a five-game winning streak, behind them. (December 5, 2012, Page 6)
