Former Oxford High standout Reed Falkner was one of five Delta State athletes who made the 2011 Fall All-Academic team. Each athlete had to carry a 3.2 grade point average or better and be a significant contributor to the team he or she was playing on.
Falkner, who plays tight end for Delta State, finished with a 3.89 in Biology. Falkner caught three passes for 45 yards and was regarded as one of the best blockers for DSU. (January 18, 2012, Page 6)

Former Oxford High standout Deantae Smith won the Hubert Tucker Offensive MVP Saturday for his performance in the MACJC Football All-Star Classic. Smith caught three passes for 35 yards and caught the North’s lone touchdown in a 14-8 loss to the South. Smith was the second-straight Ranger to win an MVP award in the game. JACKSON (AP) — Mississippi’s high school football championship games could be coming to a stadium — or university — near you.

The Oxford Chargers’ season was put to rest earlier than head coach Johnny Hill would have liked Friday night with a 20-17 heartbreaking loss to 1-5A foe Clarksdale. In a game of ups and downs for the Chargers, it was the first half that Hill felt really hurt his teams’ chances of winning. (November 7, 2011, Page 6B)
All three area football teams officially enter the must-win portion of their respective seasons tonight.
While the Lafayette Commodores and Water Valley Blue Devils open their playoff schedules hosting Leake Central and Laflore County, the Oxford Chargers close out their regular season with a win-or-go-home matchup against Clarksdale.
