Harris, defense pace No. 10 NWCC
SENATOBIA — Domonique Harris, the sophomore quarterback for the No. 10 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers, didn’t throw the ball a bunch Thursday night, but when the 6-foot-5, 225-pounder did put the ball in the air, it was usually complete to a Ranger receiver and for a lot of yards.
A week after the Rangers’ running game led them to a 42-21 win over Copiah-Lincoln on the road, it was Harris’ turn to show his skills and complete passes when the running game needed a rest against Coahoma in their 44-6 win at Bobby Franklin Field.
Harris, a former standout at Southaven, finished the night 17-for-23 for 323 yards. He was 13-for-15 for 220 yards in the first half and was never really needed in the second half as the Rangers led 24-0 at the break and 30-0 after three quarters. Unfortunately for Harris, a 44-yard pass to running back Teshadi Talton didn’t go for a touchdown even though it appeared Talton crossed the goal line with just over 5 minutes left in the first half.
Referees ruled that Talton fumbled the ball before he crossed the goal line and thankfully for him — and the 2-0 Rangers — teammate Josh Hamilton was able to recover the fumble in the end zone. Other than that small miscue, which didn’t hurt the team, a muffed punt and an interception late with the game out of reach, the Rangers played well according to coach Ricky Woods. Chargers shut out Senatobia in 9th grade game
Led by a defensive unit that has only allowed one touchdown all season, the Oxford Chargers’ ninth-grade football team defeated Senatobia 28-0 Tuesday night. The 4-0 Chargers, who have outscored their opponents 145-6, were praised by coach Jason Russell for their play on defense. “We were lights out and we really had to play hard against a good, athletic Senatobia team.” Jack Abraham led the Chargers on offense as he passed for two of the four touchdowns scored. Abraham finished the game 11-for-16 for 171 yards, while Kenzie Phillips scored twice on runs of 2 and 56 yards. Oxford finished with 302 yards of total offense and scored a touchdown in each quarter. The Chargers will return to action Monday against Center Hill. (September 12, 2012, Page 7)
OMS defeats ‘Dores in home outing
Oxford’s middle school football doubleheader against Lafayette on Tuesday night at Bobby Holcomb Field started with a great defensive performance and ended with a balanced showing on offense.
The seventh-grade Chargers defeated the Commodores 26-0, while the older Chargers outlasted the Lafayette 28-22 to remain perfect on the season. (September 12, 2012, Page 6)
Players gain valuable reps in annual tilt
A chance to play some reserves and build additional depth heading into the start of region play is what coaches from Oxford and Lafayette were looking to gain from Monday night’s junior varsity game between the two schools. While Oxford defeated the Commodores 12-7 at William L. Buford Stadium, a victory and a loss weren’t the two biggest things obtained from the contest. (September 11, 2012, Page 8)

Oxford avoids trap, tops Warriors
SENATOBIA— Coming off of an emotional win last week, it would have been understandable if the Oxford Chargers played flat Friday at Senatobia.
With the exception of a few hiccups on defense, that wasn’t the case as the Chargers never trailed during their 34-14 victory over the Warriors. (September 10, 2012, Page 3B)

BLOG: SENATOBIA— Coming off of a big win last week, some Chargers were worried Friday night’s game at Senatobia could end up being a “trap game” for Oxford.
That wasn’t the case, however, as the visiting Chargers jumped out to a 17-point lead and held on to defeat the Warriors 34-14.

Chargers have moved past Classic, focused on Warriors
Last Thursday’s win was a big one for Oxford, but the Chargers have already moved past their first Crosstown Classic victory in seven seasons.
During the high school football season there’s no time to dwell on losses, and there’s certainly no time to pat yourself on the back for victories. (September 6, 2012, Page 8)
Oxford defense earns Player of the Week nod
Oxford’s defenders must have felt hot following the Chargers’ 19-0 win over Lafayette in the annual Crosstown Classic. In a game that was dominated by the Chargers from start to finish, the OHS defense shined the brightest in a victory that not only ended a six-game losing streak to the Commodores, but also ended Lafayette’s 34-game winning streak.
It was an effort that won’t be forgotten by anyone associated with OHS for a long time. It was an effort — by all 11 starters and numerous backups — that garnered the unit this week’s Player of the Week honors.
Oxford defensive coordinator Steve Herring was beyond pleased with the effort his players gave in the victory and said hustling was the key to it all. (September 4, 2012, Page 8)
