Chargers set to visit Ragin’ Cajuns

A trio of Oxford Chargers football players are set to visit the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns this weekend. Verbal commits DeShaun McNeal and Larry Pettis are expected to be joined by teammate Guy Cameron Billups on the trip.     Oxford football DVDs for sale

    The Oxford Booster Club will be selling DVD’s of the 2010 OHS football season as well as clothing and accessories. OHS boys basketball coach Drew Tyler will be the guest speaker at the meeting that will be held in the Oxford Commons at 5:30 p.m., Thursday. (December 7, 2010, Page 9)

      Wave crash Oxford’s 5A playoff hopes

      One of the most successful seasons on the gridiron the past few seasons for the Oxford Chargers ended with a disappointing 27-12 loss to the West Point Green Wave in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs Friday night at Bobby Holcomb Field.

      A good, physical gameplan helped lifted the Green Wave (11-1 overall) into the 5A North Half title game. (November 22, 2010, Page 6B)

          OMS teams fall to Senatobia

          Both Oxford’s middle school football teams ended their respective seasons with losses to Senatobia Tuesday night. The seventh-grade Chargers lost 16-14, while the eighth-graders fell 14-8 in the nightcap.

          Oxford’s seventh-grade defeated Senatobia 26-6 in the first meeting between the two schools, but was unable to pull out the win on the road after a game-tying two-point play fell incomplete. (October 20, 2010, Page 8)

            Chargers top Tigers in region rivalry game

            Longtime coaching rivals Johnny Hill of Oxford and Anthony Jenkins of Hernando played another chess match Friday night at Bobby Holcomb Field and, in the end, it was Hill’s Chargers that made more right moves in a 31-19 victory.

            Oxford scored two touchdowns in the first quarter to jump ahead to stay and added two more scores in the final period to turn back a rally by the visiting Tigers in the game that carried postseason playoff implications. The Chargers evened their Region 1-5A record at 2-2 and improved to 5-3 overall; Hernando dropped to 4-4 and 2-2. (October 18, 2010, Page 1B)

              Late surge lifts Oxford past Tigers

              The Oxford Chargers scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns and held on to defeat Hernando 31-19 in their regional showdown at Bobby Holcomb Field.

                OHS bounces back to trounce Wildcats

                The Oxford Chargers got the bad taste of losing to New Hope out of their mouths Friday night with a 37-13 win over Clarksdale at Bobby Holcomb Field. The win improved the Chargers to 4-2 overall and an even more important 1-1 in Region 1-5A.

                OHS coach Johnny Hill felt his Chargers played “pretty well” against the Wildcats (3-3, 1-1). (October 4, 2010, Page 4B)

                  McGhee scores twice, lifts Oxford 8th-graders past Grenada

                  After trading touchdowns early, the Oxford’s eighth-grade football team was able to string together 13-straight points to defeat Grenada 22-8 on the road.

                    Oxford Middle School teams tie South Panola Tigers

                    There was plenty of excitement Tuesday night for Oxford’s seventh- and eighth-grade football teams as the two teams tied South Panola in action at Bobby Holcomb Field.

                    The seventh-grade Chargers tied 20-20, while the eighth-graders tied 14-14 in the nightcap. (September 22, 2010, Page 7)
