Abraham leads OHS in spring debut

Johnny Hill liked what he saw from Jack Abraham in his first live action with the varsity Thursday.

The rising sophomore quarterback completed 15 of 30 passes in Oxford’s 37-21 spring game victory over Cleveland at Bobby Holcomb Field.

    Oxford trio sign to play for ICC

    Three of Oxford’s best leaders and most productive players from the 2012 football season have decided to see if they can continue that success playing together two more seasons. Center Clifton Smith, defensive end Xavier Pegues and defensive tackle Joel Forrester, a trio that helped lead the Chargers to the semifinals of the MHSAA Class 5A playoffs in 2012, all signed with Itawamba Community College on Wednesday.  (more…) (February 8, 2013, Page 6A)

      Oxford’s Adamson headed to USM

      A last-minute visit to Hattiesburg ultimately paid off in the form of a scholarship offer for Oxford High quarterback Parker Adamson to play for Southern Miss. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Adamson signed with USM this morning after receiving an offer from first-year head coach Todd Monken Tuesday morning.

      Monken was able to extend the offer to Adamson, the Oxford EAGLE Player of the Year in 2012, with little time to spare in relation to his final decision being made.

        Late rally not enough to lift Mississippi past Alabama

          Adamson’s consistent leadership paves season for Oxford

          Oxford’s reversal of fortune on the gridiron this season was a result of many different players. For a team that was 5-6 and not in the playoffs in 2011, an 11-2 overall record and a trip to the semifinals of the MHSAA Class 5A playoffs in 2012 took a lot of hard work on the part of several top players.             OHS to open ‘13 against Jackson Prep

            Johnny Hill’s desire to make future football schedules tougher on the gridiron is reflected in the 2013 edition. The Oxford Chargers open the year against Jackson Prep on Aug. 23 in a game that could be played at Ole Miss’ Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.               Oxford DE Pegues wins Defensive Player of Year award from MAC in 5A

              Xavier Pegues’ dominance on the football field in 2012 for the Oxford Chargers resulted in him being named the Mississippi Association of Coaches Defensive Player of the Year Wednesday.

              The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Pegues, who will play in the annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic next week, was one of four Chargers who made the annual team on defense and one of six Chargers who made the team overall. (December 5, 2012, Page 6)
