Ice skating on the Square a big hit

More than 800 adults and children laced up ice skates Saturday and took to a synthetic ice skating rink that was set up on front of City Hall. (December 17, 2012, Page 1A)

    Ice skating coming to the Square

    The Oxford Downtown Council will be hosting a free ice skating event in front of City Hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Skate rentals and use of the synthetic ice rink is all free. (December 12, 2012, Page 1A, 3A)

      New parking rules outlined for business owners

      Members of the Downtown Oxford Council met Wednesday with officials from Standard Parking, the company hired this summer by the city to manage the parking around the Square to discuss the upcoming stricter parking enforcement set to begin in November. (October 19, 2012, Page 2A)

        Oxford to mark 175th birthday

        Oxford will be celebrating its 175th birthday starting Saturday during the first Happy Birthday Oxford! Summer Fest sponsored by the Oxford Downtown Council. Along with a sidewalk sale from Square stores, family-orientated events will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday on the Courthouse lawn. (June 27, 2012, Page 1)

          Local artists turn old chairs into works of art

          The Best Seat in the House art show and auction features 22 chairs donated to the arts council and refurbished by local artists. The art show will be held on March 5-27 at the Powerhouse. Several of the chairs are located around the Square. Can you find them? (March 2, 2012, Page 1B)

            Shoppers buy local on Black Friday

            This year’s Holiday Open House, sponsored by the Oxford Downtown Council, offered shoppers loads of discounts at Square businesses as well as holiday events like visiting with Santa, making Christmas tree decorations or watching Oxford’s first official Christmas tree light up as carolers sang in the background. (November 28, 2011, Page 1A)
