Chargers’ Steward signs with Alabama A&M

When the Oxford High softball team begins its season in the spring, Ciara Steward will have one less thing to focus on when she takes the mound.  The senior pitcher signed her National Letter of Intent to play college ball at Alabama A&M on Tuesday afternoon at the OHS library. (November 19, 2014, Page 1B, 3B)

    OMS boys, LMS girls earn wins against cross-town rivals

    The Crosstown Classic hit the hardwood for the first time this season when Oxford Middle School traveled down Highway 6 to play Lafayette Middle School inside the LHS gym Monday night.  It was all Chargers on the boys’ side of things as Oxford swept the seventh- and eighth-grade games.  In the seventh-grade game, the Chargers (6-0) won decisively over the Commodores, 27-5. The game was never in doubt as Oxford had full command due to a strong defensive effort. The Lafayette Middle School girls swept Oxford in both games. (November 18, 2014, Page 7)

      OHS Chargers score early, often in 62-14 playoff win over Ridgeland

      It may have been below freezing outside, but Oxford’s offense was red hot Friday night in its 62-14 victory over the Ridgeland Titans in its opening-round game of the MHSAA Class 5A playoffs at Bobby Holcomb Field. (November 16, 2014, Page 1B, 3B)

        OHS hoops sweeps Starkville Academy

        Starkville Academy threw a variety of zone defenses at Oxford on Saturday night. That suited the Chargers just fine. Oxford (2-0) made a living shooting over the top of the Volunteers all night, using a fast start to cruise to a 79-55 victory in the Public vs. Private Challenge at the new Oxford High gym. (November 16, 2014, Page 5B)

          BLOG: Chargers roll into second round with 62-14 win over Ridgeland

          Oxford could do, and did, whatever it wanted to Friday night and there was nothing Ridgeland could do about it. The Chargers (11-1) defeated the Titans (5-7) 62-14 in the opening round of the MHSAA Class 5A state playoffs at Bobby Holcomb Field. (more…) (November 14, 2014)

            Oxford’s Hankins signs to run XC, track at Mississippi College

            Emily Hankins was torn. The Oxford High senior’s performances on the trail and the track over the years netted her scholarship offers from Mississippi College and Delta State. Hankins went back and forth weighing the pros and cons of each school before ultimately signing with Mississippi College on Thursday in the high school library. (November 14, 2014, Page 6A)

              OHS, LHS look to stay alive in playoffs

              The postseason is in full swing as two area prep football teams are in playoff mode. Oxford begins its Class 5A playoff run tonight against visiting Ridgeland while Lafayette looks to keep its going when the Commodores host Cleveland in a Class 4A second-round matchup. (November 14, 2014, Page 6A)

                Chargers begin playoffs against Ridgeland

                After falling short in the state title game, the Oxford Chargers have been itching to make a return trip this season.                   Oxford starts season with win over Wildcats

                  Early foul trouble and a slow start had the Oxford High boys basketball team on the ropes against the Calhoun City Wildcats, but the Chargers were able to mount a comeback in the second half and come away with a 87-81 victory in their season opener inside the new OHS gym Tuesday night. (November 12, 2014, Page 1B)

                    Oxford girls nip Calhoun City

                    The two times Oxford and Calhoun City played each other last year, the home team came away the victor. That trend continued Tuesday as the Lady Chargers held serve, beating the visiting Lady Wildcats 58-55 in their season opener inside the new OHS gym. (November 12, 2014, Page 2B)
