Different styles produce wins for OHS
Both Oxford High basketball squads secured a spot in the MHSAA Class 5A Playoffs next week and a spot in the Division 2-5A championship games with wins over Saltillo at the OHS gym Tuesday night.
The similarities to the two teams’ victories stop there though, as the Lady Chargers cruised to an 83-35 win and the Chargers had to fight off a late run by the Tigers to win 62-55. (February 8, 2012, Page 6)

Chargers blank Tupelo in soccer action
Led by two goals from Hayden Stewart and two from Edward Terry, the Oxford Chargers defeated Tupelo 4-0 on Thursday night. The win was very special in that coach Jamie Perkins said it was his biggest win since becoming the team’s head coach. Tupelo defeated Oxford 10-0 three years ago and Perkins said his team was very motivated to earn a victory over the Golden Wave. Oxford (4-1-3 overall) scored its first goal in the first minute of the game and then kept the pressure on in the second half by scoring three goals. Oxford will return to action Thursda at New Albany. Four games highlight the slate, starting with a junior varsity girls game. (December 9, 2011, Page 7A)

Chargers facing must-win situation rest of the way
The mission is simple the rest of the season for the Oxford Chargers: Win or miss the Class 5A playoffs. Any coach will tell you that each week is a must win. Losing is never the first option, but losses to non-region teams ultimately don’t hurt a team’s chances of making the playoffs.
Oxford, which is 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the region after losing last week to Hernando in overtime, is in a situation where it has to win at least two of the final three games to capture a possible spot in the playoffs. (October 20, 2011, Page 6)
